I have been taking this 25 mg OTC sleep med, accompanied by 2 valerian tablets at night to assist with sleep. The doxylamine succinate is basically an antihistamine.
I'm trying to stay off the stronger sleep meds as a long term solution to my problem. My question is, can anyone tell me if long term use of this antihistamine poses any significant problem? Or is this a relatively harmless drug? I try to skip a day here and there, but it's easy to get without a script and it's also inexpensive. Thank you- |

you have glaucoma or urinary hesitancy, these may become worse.
Antihistamines like you are using are generally considered mild, but they do cause drying of mucus membranes, and may dry you out some. (this can make you prone to upper respiratory infections/colds). Or if you have dry eye or Sjogrens's it would be a concern. Since you are sleeping, blurred vision is not a major issue either. However, you may have morning grogginess depending on dose. But I wouldn't worry much, if it works for you... I don't know of any addicting issues with it.
