Studies for supplements tend to vary all over the place.
This is because the variables are not carefully taken into consideration. One study now....needs corroboration, and better control. This link explains other variables and fish oil: http://health.heraldtribune.com/2013...-pretty-fishy/ People can do what they think is best however. In this house hubby continues his omega-3's, he's been taking them for over a decade now. He doesn't eat fish, so he only uses a small amount of fish oil. Not in the mega gram range. Omega-3's are involved in cell membrane repair. So one has to have them either in food or supplements. They are essential...meaning we need to consume them in some manner. There is also controversy about flax and prostate health: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-c...d/faq-20058328 The bottom line is moderation, I would presume. Because without any, there is no repair of tissue, or support of the immune system, leading to serious declines in health. |
Yes, studies are all over the place for sure. We both take our fish oil for many reasons.

Also not unusual is that while some supplements' benefits are noticable almost immediately, others take longer or work more slowly—so slowly that it may not be readily noticable. Keeping a medication diary/journal can sometimes help in sorting this out. Quote:
