Default Questions

Does PN causes your knees to get in a lock position, last usually only for seconds?

Does it causes you to fall if you don't walk on a straight surface?

Does it cause stiffness especially waking up time?

Do PN causes knee pain too?

Taking a warm bath helps with leg pain temporially or does ice pack help your legs?

Does your legs feel cold at times even though you don't have poor circulation?

If you have sensorimotor polyneuropathy, and it alreally affected your feet, legs and hands can it spread to any other area of your body?

Hope you don't mind that I am asking all these question? Just wonder how much PN affects you and what you do for temporially relief.

Thanks Trishann

I am slightly different as I have PN but also RSD. So my legs are effected and when it is cool even my foot is dead cold. I also have very tight calves and was given klonopin to assist and was told by my neuro it is part of the whole condition. For me ice is a big no but I think that is due to rsd. I do like warm baths and some here like epsom salt you may want to try. I am also toying with the idea of the warm pool. I know for me I have pain in others areas cause I rely on them heavy due to my lower leg pain. Sorry I wish I had more answers but just some thoughts

?? this is a new one for me & I have no answer

Does it causes you to fall if you don't walk on a straight surface?
Loss of balance is usually one of the first signs of PN

Does it cause stiffness especially waking up time?
It Can

Do PN causes knee pain too?
It Can

Taking a warm bath helps with leg pain temporially or does ice pack help your legs?
Some feel ice helps, others like warmth

Does your legs feel cold at times even though you don't have poor circulation?
Yes, this can occur

If you have sensorimotor polyneuropathy, and it alreally affected your feet, legs and hands can it spread to any other area of your body?
Yes, it can-but not necessarily so.

Hope you don't mind that I am asking all these question? Just wonder how much PN affects you and what you do for temporially relief.
Everyone is affected differently and there are many different temporary relief remedies.
Above (in blue) are my direct responses to your questions.
You would benefit by reading the 'stickies' at the top of the topics page,
carefully-and go to the links provided therein.
You will find that you need to do a lot of research and reading
to answer your questions adequately.
You are your own advocate, and are 'on your own' when it
comes to gathering information about PN in general,
and specifically how it relates to your diagnoses.
There are many similarities, but there are many more differences .

Bob: Thanks for answering the questions, sometimes profession don't get the whole picture especially since it can be different for everyone. That is why I asked these questions, who have PN, about their symptons. Just these weird symptons, you begin to wonder if it goes along with PN.

Daniella: Thanks you have been a great help. I also get tight calves and warm baths are a short temporialy relief for me too. Air condition sometimes can make it hurt more or even if a fan is blowing straight on the legs. Hope you are having a nice day together, cherish those good days don't we.

Hi again. Oh yes a fan on my legs sends tha pain up so high and feels almost like a shot to the leg. I know for me I do not stretch or use my body freely. I am getting better with that as now I can wiggle my toes where as before Ic ould not. I think it keeps me very stiff not moving and having good range of motion. Since you feel water helps you may want to look into pool therapy in a very warm pool. Just like nide says what helps one person may not another and I know for me it can vary from time to time. So it is about finding what works for you that is even with meds.Hang in there and sending happy thoughts your way

Daniella, I hope you do give it a try, if anything it helps with being able to do something.

My daughter and I went swimming a lot last year and I enjoyed it very much. I went in the cool pool though but for some reason it did not bother me as long as I was moving and swimming, but once I was out of the water and then I began to get stiff and pain again. But maybe the warm pool will be better, all you can do is to try it.

Glad that you are able to wiggle your toes better, maybe the pool will also help with that issue. I get pain in my toes, and lately I have been getting pain in my big toe, I guess it is part of it too, but as for wiggling my toes I can do it. They just feel weird.

Wiggling my toes to stretch them
or 'cat stretching' my legs/ankles/feet/arches
causes terrible 'charley horses' in my lower legs & calves.
They won't subside, immediately, either
and I'm 'cramped-up' for about 5-10 mins.
Sometimes, I'll wakwe up to find that i've stretched in my sleep
and the cramps wakes me with a jolt of searing pain, and a 'charley horse'
Hurts awfully.
I have to pound on my muscles with my fists to try to relax them

Hey Bob, years ago I did get those all the time and my doctor told me to take Slow-Mag. It did seem to help, but have to stop taking it because of another health issue. Maybe it will help you, if it don't interfere with other health issue.

I wouldn't want to take something everyday, for a cramp that only occurs
occasionally. Do you take the slow mag when you get the cramps, or is it a daily 'preventative' med?

For me it was a daily preventative. It was Magnesium 128mg.,
Calcium 212mg., Chloride 373 mg.

Blessings, Trish
