Hi all, just got my second leg brace, so now I do the "frankenstein walk" when I have both braces on and dont have my crutches nearby. They seem to help alot with pain from muscle strain since the motor nerves in my ankles are not working correctly. I also have alot of pain in my feet and take a combo of Gabapentin, Cymbalta, and a topical Ketamine Lotion. There is still a single spot though, on the inside/bottom of my left foot just below the ankle bone that has alot of pain. Its a very small region, perhaps about the size of a dime. But If I tought it, even slightly it sends pain shooting up my leg. I am wondering if a doc might be able to do some sort of procedure where they deaden the nerves in that specific spot. Has anyone had anything like this done. I dont even know if a doc would consider it. I am managing all the other issues with my Neuropathy well, through excercise, controlling my blood sugar, using the AFO's and my crutches. But that one spot just kills me. I cant really increase the does of gabapentin I am on, in fact I had to reduce it because it was causing bowel incontinence. That is under control now, leaving pain management an issue again.

Ideas? Should I approach my doc about this?

Hi. I am sorry about your pain and condition. Also I am different then some here so this is based on my experience and from the million docs I have seen but everyone is different. In any regards I think being open with your doctors is key but also not to rush into something and if big procedure like you are stating to get a couple opinions. I know I have been told that it is one of the last things they want to do is to do anything with surgery and nerves on the leg/foot area. My PN but I also have RSD is in that area. The reason is it can damage other nerves near. I like you for awhile was not responding at all to any meds so went on to 2 treatments and then was going to do a possible scs which I was going to ask you if you have looked into the scs? Anyhow because the 2 treatments before made me in more pain the fear was the scs could do the same. Now I am back on combo of meds and though the pain is high I am making progress. I wish I had more of an answer for you just be careful and be open/honest with your doctors about fears,concerns,pain.

I don't know how you would feel about Botox injections? I get them in my scapular area for radicuopathy. They do help, last for about 6 months for me. I hate the side effects, feel like I'm catching a cold. I guess it could be done in the ankle area. My pain doc does them. Just a thought.
