Default My gorgeous Horse

On Friday I said goodbye to my gorgeous horse Sally.
I got her 24 years ago, both of us were young and full of energy. She was an amazing horse and taught me so much about being a better person.

We had many adventures, saw loads of things together...................
I sat and patted her dear head, my sister and her adoptive Mum sat beside me, as she left us.....
There will be a huge hole without her

I'm very sorry for your loss. Horses are beautiful and insightful creatures. I haven't had the good fortune to have one as my personal friend or pet but I'd love to. God bless you for taking such good care of her.

I know what you are going thru.

Lets share some good memories.

I had to have my best horse buddy put down 19yrs ago. He was 24.
He was a wonderful Palomino gelding with a blaze down his face.
Quarter horse & Tennessee Walker.
He could even do the "walk" when he was really hyped.

Got him during spring break when I was 15 yrs old.
He was green broke and the lady was scared to ride him. So we got him pretty cheap.
I got on him bareback and he was a prefect gentleman for me.
Being 15 and riding ponies for years I wasn't afraid of getting hurt at all.

We hauled him home in the back of an old Chevy pickup, in a rainstorm LOL. He had a thing about roofs on trailers, later on I had to get a trailer with an open top. But he walked right in to the back of that pickup truck..

His mane & tail were really long but all tangled from being out in the pasture/woods all the time. My brothers helped me and we spent the rest of that day brushing and combing him.

My friends down the road had gotten some AQHA mares and one of the mares was totally in love with him, even though he was a gelding.
.
Must have been his blond good looks LOL.
Many years later I found out that they tried to breed her to reg Quarter horse studs but she never took.

did some 4H, gaming fun shows, trail rides, raced against my brothers on their motorcycles in the fields {45mph per the speedometers},
did lots of nutty stunts, some crashes, lots of road miles too.

He could do spins, sliding stops, jump, I could ride him with a halter & rope or just using legs & body to guide him.
I didn't try that out in the open fields though.
We used to play horsey hide and seek in a big woods, and he would put his nose down and track that mare! we always found her & my friend.

good times & great memories.

Oh wow Jo*mar,

how weird is that, so many similarities!!!!
I got my girl when I was 14, she was in a huge paddock, I jumped on her bareback, with a halter. We took her home that afternoon, in a rickity single float(that now I wouldn't use to move furniture) it was pouring with rain, we had to crawl past a fallen tree on a gravel road. She was green broke, use to kick up a stink when I tried to canter, but we got over that and developed an amazing friendship. We did some very scarey stuff together, if my Mum new about it she would have fainted.
We started our journey on Natural Horsemanship together, although I think we were doing it before I had the lessons. Yes there are some wonderful memories, and those are what I think of every time I tear up, so thanks for sharing your memories!!! I appreciate it.
