My little mini dachshund Scooter just turned 17 last month and has his good and bad days. Last evening, we had him outside to potty and he flopped on one side. Hubby panicked and got him back on his feet. Scooter had been dealing with diarrhea the last few days but his appetite was still great. He tried to throw up but nothing came up.
We rushed him to the vets last evening. The vet initially thought he may have had a stroke and kept him overnight. We just got a call this morning that his condition has not improved and they're going to run some more tests on him. On top of this, I just had major surgery Monday and am not supposed to be riding in a vehicle but you bet your rear I did last night and I'm paying for it today. Whatever happens, we'll have to make another trip to the vets today. I'll just pop pain meds and deal with it as long as there's a chance we can bring our baby back home. |

I'm so sorry little Scooter is ill. I'll be praying for him....and you.....that all will turn out okay.
You remind me of me! I could be deathly ill but if my cats needed to go to the vet I'd just suck it up and go, too! Please be careful, though. I totally understand where you're coming from. Please give us an update when you can. You know we're a bunch of pet lovers here! .

The vets called yesterday and said Scooter has a serious infection and is dehydrated. They want to keep him through the weekend. Hubby's not excited about it but I feel it's the best place for him right now so they can pump those antibiotics and fluids in him. We did drive up there last night to see him - I'm a firm believer in seeing the furkids when they're ill, just like we visit humans when they're in the hospital. Sometimes I believe it can make a difference in their recovery.
They had to wake Scooter up from a nap but they let us go into an examining room with him. Hubby held him and I was able to love all over him and of course he knew it was me and started doling out the kisses. He was so happy to see hubby too because they've gotten so close these last few years. I'm hoping and praying the little guy will start to improve so we can bring him home with us after the weekend. We miss him so much! |

Thank goodness you took him in when you did. Sounds like they caught it and have him on the road to recovery.
I know you miss him.......I'd hate to leave one of my furbabies there, too, but your DH is right. He's in the best place right now. He'll probably be much better by Monday - and ready to come home, too! .

It's so hard to take when a beloved pet is ill. Here's hoping Scooter will make a full recovery and be returned to you soon.
Best wishes, Sheltiemom |
