Shipments of
. cat food sold to Oregon, Idaho and Colorado are being recalled: They could be tainted with salmonella. The recall covers only dry cat food sold under the Cat Chow Naturals label in 6.3 lb. packages and Friskies Grillers Blend brand distributed in 3.15 and 16 lb. packages. . . The company said the food was sent out by error to the three states in February, 2011 and could have been distributed to other Western states. Cats that eat the food could become ill, showing signs of a decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. They could also develop bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting. If your cat has these or other symptoms, take it to a veterinarian. Salmonella also sickens people who touch the food or infected pets. Symptoms should be treated by a medical professional. Iams had a salmonella thing last summer. They built a whole new plant and is now supplying their kibble as before.
It happens. We still stick with Iams as our last 2 kitties lived to be 20 and 24 on it.

I don't use this particular brand, either. I hadn't heard of this recall yet. Apparently it's not being broadcast publically on the news or other outlets. I hope no one's pets get sick because of this.

We had to change our cat food kibble when the Iam's recall happened.
I then switched to a specific ScienceDiet for elder cats. Then both of our very old cats started to decline rapidly and both died within 3 months of each other. One from kidney failure and one from a blood clot in the spine (had to have her put to sleep). I keep thinking about this change. They had been on Eukanuba kibble for over a decade! We are back to Eukanuba kibble now. (not a main source of food, we also give home cooked chicken, some salmon, and also canned and pouched foods rotated. When I asked our vet about this... the premier cat vet... they just said, keep doing what you are doing. The vets don't even know IMO.

Thanks for this. I've not heard it anywhere. My recently-adopted 14-yr-old arrived with a heavy preference for this, in spite of 9 mo. in the shelter where they fed only Iams. They were still trying to wean her. I've continued the effort but will have to double down.
