Likewise, but alas, I can no longer read like I used to either (headaches). I spoze that's another reason my interest in movies has grown even more (no headaches!)

One series I did reread a few times (aside from LOTR) back when I still could was Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars (Barsoom) Series. Burroughs was the creator of Tarzan, and named the city of Tarzana, CA in his honor. Before Tarzan, Burroughs created the character, John Carter (and his love interest, "the incomparable Deja Thoris"), and wrote of their (and others') adventures on Barsoom. While many many movies have been made about Tarzan (undisputably the more popular character) I have longed to see Barsoom brought to the screen since I was about 10. Until the current CGA technology, doing one right was never possible. One is finally coming out in a few weeks. (The SyFy Channel ((formerly Sci-Fi)) made one a few years back, but it was horrible - as bad and far from the original character as the early Tazan movies. I couldn't even watch it.) The new movie is coming out of Disney (not my preferred choice) so we'll have to see...

Yes, I've seen the trailers for John Carter. We have all the
Burroughs' Mars books. I read them so long ago... can't remember much about them now. The Disney movie looks like a digital thing. And I never imagined Carter looking so "pretty" like this guy! LOL I pictured him more rugged.

Hubby esp likes Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars series. I read two of them but couldn't get into Green Mars at all. Lots of science in those!

We also have read George RR Martin's series. The new one that just came out... Dancing with Dragons was such a waste.
The series started out well, fizzling out badly now.

I just keep thinking that "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" seems way much better than "Attack of the Giant Snails".

Sir Graves Ghastly. That's very cool.

Gosh, you two are taking me back. I need to re-read some of my own books from gosh, the 70's! I have a number of old Asimov here. Foundation series. William Burroughs was my first love's favourite author. <sadsigh> So then I got into Jung. True Story.

I met him, Roddenberry, L. Sprague DeCamp, Mike Jitlov (animator), and... I forget who all else.... at a college sci-fi convention in the '70s. There I was, browsing books in the dealer room, and in walks Asimov, sits down and starts signing autographs, and I've got NOTHING in hand.... Seeing the line was rapidly growing like a

, I grabbed the first thing I saw - a paperback Foundation Trilogy (this was back when it was just a trilogy), slapped down.... $10-$15? just to have something for him to sign. And probably 50 students are already lined up in front of me loaded down with double armloads of his TEXTBOOKS! (like... 20 books each). Sheesh!

Had I known, I would have been a little better prepared...
