Finding gems like Monster... was never hard on late, late shows, but since AMC (before they went commercial) and TCM began showing them unedited and without commercials, we B-movie fans have been blessed and vindicated. (And before anyone mentions it, yes, my DW & I - both - are MSTies... . ) Much of our collection (including Monster That Challenged the World) is still on VC, but they DO help distract one from chronic pain some of the time.... Many gems can also be found on the . or segmented on . . Doc

Hubby is a huge SciFi fan. He has a gazillion books, and he rereads them even.
I've read some and I did like you, Dr. Smith,..watch the B/W Sat movies when I was young. We had a local goofy actor, Sir Graves Ghastly, who hosted the movies on Sat afternoons... it was good fun. . Have you read the Repairman Jack novels? If not you really should. Nightworld has quotes in every chapter from that era. The author, F.Paul Wilson who is a medical doctor BTW, is also a SciFi fan. Many of the books delve into the great old SciFi/horror era. Nightworld is being rewritten and should be out soon. .

. One series I did reread a few times (aside from LOTR) back when I still could was Edgar Rice Burroughs' Mars (Barsoom) Series. Burroughs was the creator of Tarzan, and named the city of Tarzana, CA in his honor. Before Tarzan, Burroughs created the character, John Carter (and his love interest, "the incomparable Deja Thoris"), and wrote of their (and others') adventures on Barsoom. While many many movies have been made about Tarzan (undisputably the more popular character) I have longed to see Barsoom brought to the screen since I was about 10. Until the current CGA technology, doing one right was never possible. One is finally coming out in a few weeks. (The SyFy Channel ((formerly Sci-Fi)) made one a few years back, but it was horrible - as bad and far from the original character as the early Tazan movies. I couldn't even watch it.) The new movie is coming out of Disney (not my preferred choice) so we'll have to see... . . ) Doc
