I just got caught up on the happenings lately... I haven't been following it that closely. Very interesting, I must say. Hopefully, it isn't too late to rekindle the love...

The original pair has been at the nest this morning...6:55 and I think they've discovered the squirrel nest.

It looks like the original female has driven off the "loose" eagle

. I visited the raptor forum and on it Raptorman says that female eagles are the more aggressive bird. That males are smaller as chicks and adults and learn early to defer to the females. So I guess it is more likely that the female drove off this intruder. The males only incubate about 20% of the time, so while the resident female was busy he did not sit on the eggs long enough. I think also it is possible that the intruder wanted to mate, and then she may have gone to another nest to lay there. I wonder (and this is a human response) if the resident eagle helped the younger intruder to make a nest for herself? That is why she was gone? Or that she drove the intruder off so FAR that it took days? I guess we will never know what exactly happened, but we may have chicks yet! I keep checking in daily anyway.
