Lightbulb the slideshow...

There are some really great shots on the slideshow for 5/2.

Shows the male feeding Mom, with the chick watching.
This is great modeling behavior! So this chick if male, may grow up like
his Dad! (and not like the Blackwater male who ignored them)

Last year I missed this part, the early chick days, due to work.
I think these moments are the most interesting of all!

Wink How DOES this Mom eagle keep the nest clean?

Well, this video shows the little squirt...doing his/her thing:

Look closely about 3/4 of the way into the video:

I was watching this at work and it's amazing how long he/she is holding their head up now. This afternoon dad came with a fish, gave mom a little love peck, and they shared their fish with the little one

Wink video clip...

Here is a new video of the baby eagle climbing out of the "nest cup" ..and
into the other parts of the nest..

.

Very active. It is so much fun to watch this. Who would have imagined the
level of intimacy and cooperation these birds engage in ...before the
computer age and cams?

There are other very nice videos at that photobucket link too... check them out!

Lightbulb eagle biology....

Here is a really good link that explains the progression from egg/chick/nestling/fledgling.

.

and this from the behavior link from the same site:
Quote:
For bald eagles, this critical period is from nine days to six weeks of age. Until it is nine days old, the chick's eyes cannot focus well enough to distinguish humans from mother eagles. However, from nine days and up to about six weeks of age, the baby chick will imprint on a human if the human appears to be its food source. If this happens, the eagle will be permanently imprinted on that person or humans in general. This causes the eagle to look for humans to provide food. Possibly a worse result is that, once mature, the imprinted eagle will refuse to mate with other bald eagles.
If you watch some of the video (esp at the photobucket site) you can see the mother interacting with the baby.
She nudges him/her with her beak, and encourages it to move over, and I even saw a sort hug thing.

Is having a tough day today, on Mother's Day...

Take a look..

.

The wind has just picked up.

I saw the little one dive under her a couple of hours ago...guess he/she
doesn't like the wind!

Wink growing by leaps and bounds...

There are some nice close ups with Mom and eaglet today.
The weather is calmer and they have the cam on extreme close up.

Nice shots of a healthy fast growing chick!
