That is so cute. I have always believed that cats are somewhat solitary until I could finally care for two cats on my own. The two live with me and understanding them is a lot easier. Neither necessarily has much desire to sleep on me but there is a very obvious pattern in which they both enjoy being close. Either on a chair or in corner of bed, at most in the same room. If the door is open they will rarely spend the night elsewhere and most commonly pick a corner of bed where I sleep. I believe that cats feel the comfort or safety when near owner family or other cats. This is something I used to believe was a thing that happens only with street cats who socialize a lot as I would mostly see them napping in groups or near each other. You could try let the cat roam around to pick her own favorite spot which might just be close by.

Default Hi all

I love hearing about all your cats. I just brought home on friday a 7 day old kitten. It's name is hercules, as it was touch and go the first few days at the animal sancturary. This sancturary is right down the street from me. I have hoped for a kitten that young for many years. It is adorable and on an eye dropper with a small nipple on it. Today is 10 days old, and it is thriving. We go in for a well check to the vet today. I had a cat that I got at 4 weeks old, and he lived to be 21. New kitten is a real gift. ginnie

Thumbs up

Happy for you, ginnie! Hercules is even a better name than Samson!

When will we get photos? I would love to see him!

Ginnie,

If you haven't yet, I think it would be prudent to research the early development of kittens, imprinting, etc. There are some things that are important for the healthy development of Herc that humans usually don't know about because they're taken care of by the natural mother (e.g. grooming to help the nervous system develop properly, and more).

If you need help with the google searches, I'm sure some of the other cat fanciers can help you (I've had cats, but have more experience with dogs).

...stuff like that.
.

Best wishes to everyone,

Doc

Default Hi Doc. and MrsD

Hercules is doing OK. We go in for a well check to make sure he is on track in about two hours. I do know about the developement and bonding. This visit is to up date me on everything. Also the animal sanctuary is only 5 houses away for emergencies too. "Gail" from Wildlife rescue has had many kittens before from birth. I will get all the scoop on the kitten from his first vet check today. Will let you know how he is doing. I do have pictures now, on my samsung tablet, however I don't know how to post them here yet. Been too busy to learn. The santuary took the pictures last thursday at 6 days old. No bigger than a mouse! I am going to do my very best by this little tike.
My other cat Scruffy I got at four weeks old, and he lived to be 21. I hope for success this time too. He is still very tiny and fragile. Can't wait to get to the vet. xginnie

Default Kitten update

Kitten in perfect health. Just slightly (a gram) underweight. I have increased its formuls with a bigger syringe. No parasites, no ear problems, everything in good working order. Sammy my older cat, finally came up to the kitten while feeding and took a good sniff, no hissing either! They are going to be very good friends. ginnie

Default Hi MrsD

Sammy my first cat, finally came up in my lap and made up. Now he is showing some interest to the kitten. This may have a very a happy result! He was really kinda bent out of shape with me for just about 6 days. Kitten shows signs of really getting close to me. This is fun MrsD. ginnie

Wink

Make sure you love Sammy up.... and give lots of his favorite foods.

Cats worry that their FOOD will get affected by the new kittie on the block. If the food is plentiful and he has some treats of his faves...
he will be much less stressed. We have found food to be the Royal Road to reducing friction when bringing a new cat into the home.
