Question Baby rabbits in my yard in a hole in the ground

Hi-

Las Tuesday I found a hole dug in my yard w/ baby animals in it..They were covered up w/ dried grass, but I removed it to see what they were..Their eyes were not open and they looks liked rats/mice...I did not want the dog to eat them...I covered them back up, did not touch them or the grass...I used a stick...My dog ignores the area. The other night I saw a rabbit on that spot. Yesterday there was one dead, 2 feet from the hole. It was a bunny. I buried it. My yard is fenced in , but a cat could get in or a bird...I do not want them to die. Any suggestions??

.

Stacy

Not wanting them to die is understandable for an animal lovers such as you and I. Unfortunately, it is best to let nature take its course. You could build a fence around the hole and Mama Bunny should be able to find a way in but might not even try. Even then, if a bunny can get in so can most determined predators.

Alas, Mother Nature can be a harsh mistress, indeed.

Question

They are out growing their hole.....One hopped ou & my dog went after it. I ran outside and flashed a light on it. It stoo still and I put it back in the hole.

SHould I dig a bigger hole? WHat can I feed them? I do not think the mom is coming around. They are too little to survive on their own.

Try looking for a wildlife rehab in your area. If there's an animal control officer in your area, or a humane society, those are good starting places.

Good luck! Baby bunnies are adorable but soooo fragile. My dog scared one up in a ditch and the tiny thing hopped across the road, unseen by Rosie, thank goodness! It was so young it was wobbly.
