I thought it was just funny. However as someone who spent a few Years in the halls of academia studying psychology including test design and statistics, I can tell you the test was probably valid for what it measured. There are a lot of statistical methods to control for some of the variables mentioned and I assume they also tested the subjects levels of introversion and extroversion and likely administered IQ test as well. I used to give some of those tests.

The sample size is fine to achieve statistical significance. However the bias is, as has been mentioned, that the study included only college students. I am not sure the outcome would have been very much different with a different demographic though, I am not sure but I think there have been other studies that showed different personality traits between dog and cat people.

Statistics is funny, the article did not conclude that cat people are smarter than dog people.. It said they "scored higher on intelligence tests" and that is different. You CANNOT extrapolate WHY from that...it could mean they are smarter or that introverts tend to be more successful test takers (some people are), or that dog people are less motivated to take psychological tests, etc. You don't know why. That may seem nit picking and counter intuitive but it the long run it is proven to be right.

I used to have an Afghan hound, he was a great farm dog and bravely protected the chickens from coyotes.

When I was young, my mother, who is definitely a cat fancier, raised me to appreciate cats and their unpredictable personalities (he love me, he loves me not...). After I married a dog fanatic, I became a lover of dogs, who seem to validate your existence every time you come home to them staring out of the front window and wait to shower you with love when you get inside.

I'd have to say, now I'm more partial to dogs than cats, but I can appreciate both for their unique tendencies. Sometimes I want to be aloof, and not fully accountable like a cat, but on the other hand I want to shower and be showered with love and attention and belong to the pack just like a dog.

I have had both dogs and cats show a fierce loyalty and kind friendship that is rarely seen in the human realm. They each have great instincts for people, too. I guess I am just grateful to have either belong to my family. M-i-m

my cat is my best buddy. My mother and girlfriend got him while I was in the hospital 6 years ago.

He is most content when both of us are home and cries like a baby when girlfriend leaves for work for about ten minutes. He brings a fake mouse to the door lol. I wonder what he thinks that will do lol

we take naps during the day together.

I couldn't give a dog all the attention it needs. Not my style. But I like big ones.

So what happens if you like both cats & dogs?

I always had dogs growing up, but later in life I got cats with my ex girlfriend.

I think both cats & dogs are awesome...

I have recently added a kitten to my home. She is nine weeks old & I have had her one week. I have named her Gabriella. I already love her to bits & every day she has put a smile on my face... But I would be the same if I brought a dog into my home...

It probably means you're a well rounded individual.

I wonder what they'd think of my loving cuddly hens or baby goats or little lambs.

I still don't understand why my cat cries and brings a mouse to the door every time my girlfriend leaves for work. Doesn't he realize after all these years that she is leaving at a certain time and coming back again?
or am I giving too much credit to the cat lol.
plus, can't he understand that she couldn't see the mouse even if she were right outside the door?...again..too much credit
