Default Cruel, not funny

Purposely scaring hypersensitive kittens and cats to make a video to put out on the internet is not funny in the least, it is cruel. We all have seen a cat innocently get spooked by a shadow or foot under a bedspread but to purposely grab, scare or turn a vacuum cleaner on a pet to see it react for "entertainment" purposes is abuse. Scaring a kitten and it smashes into a wall is funny? The proliferation of these videos, doing things to animals to see them react is getting increasingly more and more cruel and it is being fueled by social media. Should you turn on a vacuum cleaner, throw a big fake spider or grab a toddler from behind to see him/her scream and jump because their reaction is funny?
No, of course not.
We should not be doing it to animals either.

Red face

You do have a point, Diandra, but I thought the kittens and the vacuum were done while they climbed on it and accidentally turned it on themselves!

Our own Weezie got stuck in a paper bag once, and she ran around too. I thought these guys were just ready to video "in case". Cats often do surprising things, and many times they are funny.

I've seen many videos on YouTube that were odd, staged and cruel. One comes to mind, a ceiling fan one with a cat hanging on it. (foolish and dangerous). Cats hanging from doors, or falling from great heights... also cruel and not funny.

I think throwing a rubber spider is not cruel... most cats will leap up in the air over basically nothing commonly. In fact we have had 2 cats who had rubber insect/spider toys! Our late Sheba would pick up a big rubber ant with her mouth, by one leg and toss it in the air, and go after it. If she ran into it by accident and was startled , there would not be "damage", but just surprise.

I'm sorry you don't agree with these videos. I thought they were funny and reminded us of our past and present kitties.
