Default More unfortunate-ness with the Decorah Eagles

The family is intact, all birds are okay. But their nest is a goner. The storm (it was a microburst; very small area of violent damage) that took it out occurred during the annual After the Fledge party, making it that much more...personal...to those who were actually there in person.

.

I spent the weekend at the party, as Decorah is only a couple hours away from me. It was so hard to look where the nest used to be, and see nothing. It's okay, though. There is still the other nest, N1, with it's camera. The camera system (both trees) fried during an earlier storm a couple months ago, as was slated for repair anyway.

The big question now is, where will Dad Decorah decide to nest for the 2016 season?

Here's 2 views of N2, one taken last month and the other taken after the nest came down. Not exactly the same view but very close.

Wow... that is amazing. The poor birds have to endure so much!

Someone should make a stick pile on the ground for them to rebuild with. Sort of like the fluff balls we make for small nesting birds. It might be easier for the eagles to find their sticks mostly in one area.

They build specially made artificial nesting poles for the Osprey to nest in here. They take to them really well.

Sparky, I'm just glad it wasn't the same as last year. That was really sad.
Thanks for sharing and for the photos.

Adding to what Lara wrote, a while ago I spent an enjoyable time watching a pair of Ospreys on an artificial nest in the Scottish Highlands.

Apparently they come back to it every year so I guess that they approve of it.
