Actually it was yesterday where I am, 26th September.
Southern Cassowary - Casuarius casuarius johnsonii Threatened species. These live a little north of where I am and they do a great job but you don't want to come face to face with one with no-where to run. . . They can be as tall as 1.8m (nearly 6 feet tall). Incredible looking creatures. Flightless. They're a keystone species so despite their small population these days they actually have a huge impact on their environment as they are seed spreaders especially in the rainforests. Pictures and some info from my State Govt. and Australia Zoo . . . Be Casso - wary |
