Default 2023 Harvest

Harvesting the cane here this morning. Bad weather predicted so I figure they'd get in early. There's some massive weather system heading into the Coral Sea. They keep saying it'll not hit land but if you see the size of the system it's a little difficult to imagine it'll just evaporate. It's not even Cyclone season yet and our Radar is down for replacement until 20th of December isn't that lovely.

It's very dry so they'll want to get it all done this week. They harvest at night a lot using headlights, starting around 2am. Today, Sunday, I guess they thought 6am was better. The house is only 10 metres from the first row. They don't burn cane here much anymore esp. not on this property. lol. Anyway, it's all gone now for another year. Pity the poor animals who have no where to go. Just as long as they don't congregrate under my house.
.
I got out to the window with the camera too late as they were finishing. If you click the image you can see the Whistling Kites up above the harvester, waiting for their food. :/

Now it's soooo exposed and bright and dry and ick. In 3 months it'll be pretty again.

Edited to add the "before shot" of same spot.
