Default Getting a Springer Spaniel puppy soon!!

Hi there,
I am hopefully getting a springer spaniel puppy soon.
My 13 year old springers been diagnosed with a nasal tumour and we thought a puppy would keep him company, our vet says that it should not be a problem.

Can anyone suggest anything for the puppy or my older dog??

Thanks
Alison
