Yesterday, my son went out to take the garbage to the dumpster. Unbeknownst to him, a stray or lost kitty was hiding in the window well. As soon as he opened the door she dashed in. (it is pretty cold here now). She was soooo desperate.
So he wants to keep her. He has two already, and this one is very thin and may be sick and may belong to someone. So he is putting up flyers, and going to the rental office to report her in case someone lost her. (I don't think so). She smells like dryer sheets..so he thinks she was sitting under dryer vents to keep warm. (sad sad). I hope she doesn't have leukemia! Here are two pics.. I think she is lovely. It was his roommate's birthday yesterday. And they are planning on having another friend move in, and getting a bigger unit to 3 way split the rent. So he may be able to keep her, he doesn't know yet. He says she is very very thin, thinner than Amy was when he adopted her, and that was 5.5 lbs.

Hi there,
Oh the photos of the cat are so cute. I really hope that your son can keep the cat - it sounds like the cat as been seriously mistreated . Please ask your vet to check the cat over. He will be able to run tests to see if she is suffering from any long lasting damage. I hate to see animals in such a poor condition. I really admire what you and your son are doing for her. I want to be a vet when I grow up. My grandad owns a siamese cat called Maddie, she is beautiful. I own a springer spaniel puppy, 3 hamsters, an African grey parrot, 3 fish and a chinchilla (as you can see I love pets) Please keep us informed on the cats progress and I hope that your son can keep her - you sound like such a loving family ((hugs)) Best wishes Love Alison

She is adorable, and I hope things work out. I agree, a trip to the vet would be well worth it, and protect the cats already in the home. Tell the vet it's a rescue, sometimes some will work with people financially in that case. Can't hurt to ask.
What I might suggest is finding a no-kill rescue group in your area. You can find them through . , click on shelters and rescue and put in your area and you'll get a list of all the shelters and rescue groups and ask about their putting the cat up for adoption. More often than not, these groups have waiting lists, sometimes months long, so it will allow your son to keep the kitten for a bit to see whether he can keep it, but if he finds he can't, you're already on the list. You can always change your mind and keep it when your name comes up. They will never destroy an animals and keep them either up for adoption for fostered until they find a good home, they are very careful. It's sorta like having your cake and eating it too, and the kitten is ensured to always be safe and have a promising future either way. |

With my son. The new girl is staking him out...sitting on his lap etc ALOT.
I had him check her fur and he could not find flea evidence. That is very very strange. She should have some at least. I asked him to take a damp cloth and stroke her fur to get that dryer sheet smell out. It can't be good for her to groom herself with those chemicals there. He is taking her to the vet tomorrow after work. She hasn't used the litter box yet that he has seen, but he sees her sniffing around it so she knows what it is. ( I hope she is litter savvy) His other two cats are NOT happy...but there is no fighting or major aggression. Some low throated growls as you would expect. She is eating and drinking majorly now too. He has a friend (the one who wants to move in if they get a new lease for a 3 bedroom), who might take her. But I agree, a rescue place is best..or a vet (we have adopted several from vets). This time of year there are not many kittens, so a pretty well mannered cat like this may get adopted quickly. After all he obtained Amy from a rescue when she was sooooo sick with that drainage hole in her side etc. I am sure something will be done. But it looks and feels like he is going to keep her. Just my Mom's instinct clicking in.

oh mrsD she is so lovely
I do hope she isnt FELV or FIV positive...that was a big hurdle for us with the abandoned kitties too and yes, a cat rescue group or vet is best....as I learned when I rescued Catsby and Twisp...the county shelters will put down most animals brought to them as they just dont have funds or space . . hoping it works out well and this sweet kitty finds a good home.

Well, the kitty has a name now....Tima (pronounced Teema).
She has been to the vet, doesn't have feline leukemia, and is settling in. I suspect she will not be easy to give up now. The cats are getting along pretty well, considering they are all females. Here is a new picture: I think she is very attractive and the vet thinks she is a tortoise-shell and not a pure tabby. My son says she eats constantly. She was starving, obviously.
