Confused Any Advice On Pekenese??

Hi,
I bought our Pekenese when she was 8 weeks she is 3 now) and from the time she was tiny has hated cats with a passion...when we got her we had a huge Tom cat that we had for 4 years and she terrorized him until he left us and moved in with our neighbors
.
She would stand up on her hind legs and box with him until he could not take it anymore). She loves all other dogs and people showing no signs of aggression with anyone else, be it adults, kids or other dogs! Another thing is I have done everything I know to do and can't get her housebroken...put in dog door, take her out for hours in a fenced area we made for the dogs to play and no matter how long she is out she will wait to come in and the she goes, Arrrrrhhh!! The people I bought her from was dirty and she was so invested with fleas I had to take her to be groomed right away after giving her 4-5 flea dips myself. I know other people with Pekenese
.
also have cats, what could be the problem?? I want a cat again put I worry she would kill it. Anyone??
Thanks in advance.
Junie

Hi ((Junie)).

By the way, I was reading your signature line and just want to say congratulations on all of that weight loss! You should be so proud of that!

I wish I knew more about the Pekingnese than I do. I looked at a couple of web sites and they are one of those dogs who are very proud and want to hold reign over everyone else. Apparently they are hard to housebreak.
.

It looks like they need daily exercise. I don't know if that would make a difference for you or not.

Here is a link about housebreaking dogs.
.

I'm so sorry your poor cat was a target. I had a cat I adored, Sweetie Pie, that was terrorized by the feral cat I took in, Annie. Annie could have cared less about the other pets, but she would NOT leave poor Sweetie Pie alone! One thing I would do is keep a spray water bottle nearby. If she'd go for Sweetie Pie I'd spray her and that breaks them up fast! But you're not supposed to let them see that you are the one doing it!

Good luck with your baby.

Lightbulb sounds like

This dog is ruling the roost at your home.

Have you ever watched Cesar Milan, The Dog Whisperer?

He shows people how to regain some control over dogs which
become the pack leader in your home. He is on Nat Geo channel (cable).

Some breeds are very dominant personality wise. Sounds like yours is
one of those.

Thanks everyone,
I asked on another forum and someone said to let a big mean dog give her a spanking and said that was how she fixed her cat hating dogs! I am at a loss, she is so passive with other dogs and people to the point of being timid.
I ordered a book on training all breeds by the AKC club so I am hoping that will give me some new ideas. I am also kicking around the idea of crate traing unless its too late.
BTW, thanks for the comment on wt loss, it was nothing I did, just the result of a botched spinal fusion last year. Sigh, if its not one thing its 10.

Aw, Junie, I understand. Lots of pain = lack of appetite. In the last year I've lost 20 lbs and I think mostly due to more than the normal amount of pain.

Good luck with your furbaby and keep us posted!
