Well my new dog; she is a mix of Beagle and Jack Russell. She was found on side of highway 95 here in Florida. The lady who found her ran ads in paper, and contacted the couple local shelters with no luck. She found she worked to much and the dog to much so she passed her onto another person where my hub works they have tiny tots for kids and it didn’t work for them to keep her, so on she went to another person. Till hub called a couple weeks ago for me to drive there and come bring new dog home. Her name was Becky …yuck!... for a dog really .
I changed it to Gem-ni a.s.a.p. Anyways been two weeks trying to break her of her jumping habit she enjoys jumping from sitting position to..In my face over and over like a bag of pop corn popping I think so I can catch her or something?? But I can’t handle it cus of my T.N. and face issues of getting bumped on face. That’s my first thing I need some advice for???????????????????? And then I don’t know if she has had any shots I know she isn’t fixed but I am bring her to a low cost shot for pets this Sunday. Will they give her rabies and distemper even thought I have no clue if she has them??????? Will it get her sick?????? Any help would be used wisely and appreciated. T.Y. BMW ---------P.S I will try to post a pic of her and my other dog soon. |

She should be fine as far as shots go, often times people don't bother getting shots for their dogs and then they dump them when they are tired of them.
As far as her jumping goes, wal-mart carries an "anti-jump" harness and it keeps them from jumping up. There's instructions on how to put it on....it uses the back half of the dog. these come in many sizes so watch that you get the right one. Also for bad habits, we used a spray bottle with just water in it. Now I reach for ANY bottle, even my hand lotion and our dogs turn their faces away! Hope you are feeling better! .

Basically just being firm and consistent with her-
when she starts to look like she is going to jump put your hand like a stop sign and say "NO!" "down!" the secret is catching her before she actually does it. or right away when she does sit her back on the floor and say again "NO!" "down!" if she persists - then ignore her or put her in another room as a time out also be sure to love her up when she is being good . . . Beagles and Jack Russell's are HIGH energy dogs so lots of play time and walks and outdoor time - or they will develop bad habits I found a very helpful video in our library called "Woof Woof" by Matthew Margolis [sp] {Uncle Matty}

no she whines like a lap dog. I have always had big/med size dogs. This is my first little dog. I think she is 2 maybe 3 years old. But she is much much better on a leash walking then my other dog so we do some walking a couple times a day. I cant wait to bring her to dog beach we have here. dogs are funny first time they go to ocean/ beach with the waves and stuff.
I really hope to break her of jumpping up. . . when she first came I was out side she in and she jumped on counter grabed the container of sprinkel chesse left in middle of living room then nosed open the cupbord carried the bread down and into living room next to the chesse. how silly is that . she didnt chew it but I think she had a sandwich in mind . |

. . Lots of info, Im sure if you search you'll find the answer. The thing with a dog that you get this way is you have no history, her previous owner may have thought the jumping was a cute thing. Its possible that they rewarded this behavior. It is possible to break habits like this with consistant correction and positive reinforcement when she doesn't jump. Good luck. I got my dog in much the same way, she is now a well behaved little princess. By the way I think Gem-ni is adorable. Thank you for saving her!!
