This bird is already perching and accepting...so it may not
be injured or sick. I've had great luck getting warblers like this back to the family, at our summer home. So you might get
lucky.

You know I saw the strangest thing yesterday with our hummingbirds. I have one family with a female and two new
fledglings coming to my two feeders right outside my computer room window. I watch them whenever I am online.

Yesterday I saw a female Cardinal attack one of the hummers!
I've never seen other birds do that. The hummers up North come with the bird flocks on their daily route. There are
chickadees, nuthatches, warblers and woodpeckers that all come at once (because of the hawks, I think). Safety in numbers. My husband and I were reminded of the MAD female cardinal that used to sit on my car's left side view mirrow all day and attack her reflection! That was something to see. So maybe Cardinals are more aggressive than we all think?

Maxie says, "Chirpy chirpy thank you!"

She willingly ate 4 bites of hamburger, but said "No, thanks," to the water I offered on the end of a "fancy" (cellophaned) wooden toothpick.

She is not doing any wing-flapping, but is much more alert than before. She is now perched on a stick inside the box.

What? I gotta get up early? :confused: Fine then. For little Maxie I will get up with the birds!

Wish I could find my camera...:o

I hope things go well tomorrow.

Twink, I have no idea what to feed it, what kind of bird it is, etc. I know my Mom was awesome about rescuing birds that we found. She always knew what to do and what kinds they were. I personally don't know much about birds.

If you decide to keep her, you'll need a cage.
Also you'll need to do canned dog food for the daily fare.

Dog food has vitamins and minerals in it.. which the birds
need.

I went to a bird sanctuary many years ago...in Maine on vacation.
The guide there was feeding blue jays, the dog food.
A finch type bird, with a heavy beak for seeds, needs
seed food. (very young birds get bread dipped in milk)
I see the sparrows here using our suet feeder that has seeds mixed into the suet. I could not find plain suet this season in the grocery so I was forced to by the mixed commercial type.
I have never had sparrows go for it before. So they like the seeds mixed with fat.

Up North we see song sparrows (they are nicer, and larger) eating the young grasshoppers on the shore.

I am going to check my bird book for you today, and see if I can find your bird more exactly.
So far skimming my Nat Geo Field Guide I see tons of yellowish warblers! (with range maps to Utah)

Remember juveniles do not always look like the the parents yet.
If you can get a picture, it would help me. My reference shows the juveniles.

Today will be searching for the parents. After feeding Maxie take her out to where you found her
and put her high up where you can reach and see if she can call the parents. If she weakens, then they have moved on. And then you will have to decide if you can keep her. Or take her to a shelter if you do not want that responsibility.

Also... your bird eats every 15-20 minutes in the wild. So you will be busy today! ;)

She made it!
 

Maxie made it thru the night! I was loathe to check her box this morning, but when I opened the lid, her mouth immediately went into the "feed me this instant or I shall die" mode!

Her chirp is quite soft. I held her (still sitting in the box) out the front door so she could check for her parents. I heard some bird noises, but apparently it wasn't anybody she knew, cause she was quiet.

So I brought her back in the house and am feeding her small portions on a toothpick. I did break the pointy tip off, so as not to injure her.

I have discovered that I need to put the food in the lower part of her beak, rather than the pointy end. Don't know how such a little 4" thing can open her mouth so big! I swear she could almost swallow herself whole!

She did move around on her perch last night some, but finally stepped off and snuggled into the flannel.

I can hear her calling! Must be time for another bite of hamburger. Will get the canned dogfood in awhile. I guess I will be taking her with me today. Must go to my hair appt. and then to work for a couple of hours.

I won't let anyone hold her, as I think that would not be a good thing.

Man, I know nothiing about birds! Don't you have to chew up food , like worms, first and then spit it out into the baby birds' mouths?:confused:

I didn't know birds could chirp with their beaks closed!

I hear her call and run in, thinking she must be announcing she's hungry and waiting with her beak wide open for the next meal, but she's just sitting in her box softly chirping, her mouth completely closed!

She is much more lively this morning; however, I have yet to see her stretch her wings.

I don't have an eyedropper yet for water, but do the parents feed them water? Will she be hydrated enough simply from the moisture in the canned dog food? Or do I need to supply it?

She was kinda annoyed -- maybe even chagrined! -- that I offered a drop of water on the cellophane end of a toothpick. I don't want her rising up in rebellion and doing a one-man-show of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds!" :eek:
