Well, Twink, I am so impressed with you !! I found a baby morning dove in my backyard last year, and brought it in after I was sure it had been abandoned( I didn't want it to be lunch for the neighbors cat). It lived about 5 hours, and I think I hastened it's demise by feeding it. I was so disapointed.

What an exciting adventure you are having, I bet your grandkids are impressed!! I hope little Maxie makes it and can return to the wild. Keep posting your success. I can't beleive she sits on your finger, it makes me smile just to imagine how that feels. Might have to change your name to Bird Lady!! Can't wait to see the pics!!

I am having a crisis here... I took 2 of my cats to get their
rabies shots, and the older one, Tippy is having a reaction.
I had to rush her back for steroids and observation!
(she had one 10 yrs ago, but by giving Benadryl before the
vaccine she didn't react last time. Today was awful, and I feel so upset...she is old 15yr, and may not handle it well.)
They took her in the back quickly and she threw up all over.
I am so worried! She is too old for this stressor!

About the bird--- it is definitely YOUNG... no tail
I don't think it is fledged enough to fly with the parents. It might be a refugee from
a nest attack... like Jays and Crows do. Sometimes red squirrels will destroy a nest too, but usually that is to get the eggs.

That nest may be on the ground where you found the baby---you might be able to return her!

We have a similar warbler called the Nashville...very similar coloring.

Not one of them looked exactly like Maxie, but it could be because she is still a youngster.

What? She needs a longer tail to fly? I was hoping she'd take off in a day or two.

No, I don't believe the nest would be on the ground, as it is not safe here in small town suburbia.

Bruce liked MEAT, (ground hamburger) spiders, and worms... squick! I made mi esposo feed him, lol.

we never figured out what kind of birds EITHER of them were, but somehow managed to keep them fed and healthy until they could fly away...

mostly by trial 'n' error, mixed with a healthy dose of patience, AND vigilance in keeping the birdies protected from our kitty.

kudos to you, for figuring out the feeding so quickly... we nearly LOST Pookums before understanding what she needed.

we didn't have eyedroppers, so, we used the giant syringes (used for deworming our goats and pigs) with the needle removed, and that worked okay.

and we made her a little wing-splint with popsicle sticks and medical tape, lol.

and we fed them chicken starter mash, and canned cat food, with Nutritional Brewers Yeast mixed in...

lol, ya just gotta make do with what's on hand in the jungle.

And its a good thing I don't pay much attention to the guys behind the meat counter at the grocery store: they said to mix grit/gravel in with the food for digestion. I think that would more likely apply to seed-eaters (not sure though).

Your birdies are mighty pretty. Glad you were able to help them survive!

oh, and yeah, Twinkie, we DID put sand and grit in with the chicken starter mash...

we have a nice pile left over from mixing the mortar and cement for our house-building.

after the emergency animal hurricane shelter is finished next week, we're going to use the rest of the sand to floor the ducky nursery... what with the RAIN (endless rain during rainy season) and all the duck caca, it's gettin' kinda, er, um, SLIPPERY in there, lol...

and you DO get the kudos for figuring out the feeding, because (precisely because!) you knew you had to ASK !!

we're lucky with NeuroTalk that way, a plethora of experts on most everything... they just abound here, for our knowledge-seeking !!

me, I didn't think of ASKING for help, or we coulda figured out the feeding quicker, instead of trial 'n' error for a whole day first, frantically trying everything we could think of...

I have an all black senior as well. She's 17 and very fraile.

They told me to call at 4pm today. So I just did and they want her for another hour! We have to call back then to see if they will release her.

This is that last time I get a vaccine for her. I don't care about the law and rabies...I can't put her thru this again.
