Thanks mrsd. Never thought of dryer sheets and newspapers having chemicals that could harm the wee one.

I don't know what happened to the dry sheet, but she has really nestled down into that lint.

Today she is eating more food at one time, but not as many times per hour. Works for me!!!

Doody, I may have Maxie "wrapped around my finger", but that just makes it easier for her to poop in my hand!!! I'm getting "hospital hands" from washing so often!

ahhhhhhh, Twink... I know how ya feel...

yesterday... (I'm gonna put this story here because it involves one of my birds, a Toulouse Goose... and I CAN'T put it in Olivia's Wok-Wok Thread, because it's rated R, for violence, so y'all get stuck with it... sorry!)

.

.

.

anyway, where was I ??

oh yeah, yesterday, my house builder (a Mayan gentleman from my remote jungle village, who's now building us an emergency hurricane shelter for nesting and pregnant animals) was working, and suddenly, he heard the geese having a COW by the pond...

he had to rescue our beautiful Mama Goose from a wild bushcat (Jaguarundi) which was dragging our goosie off into the bushes by her NECK.

to get the wildcat to let go of our sweet Gwynneth Goose, he struck at the snarling cat with his machete, and regretfully, the cat was slain.

after the deed was done, I learned that Jaguarundis are a CITES Appendix I critter, not endangered elsewhere, but rare in this particular area (Belize).

so now I need to worry about something possibly illegal having been done.

.

soothing, and cleaning up a very ruffled Gwyn, after the attack

Gwynny is resting in a box on my porch, exhausted and still frightened...

I sure hope there's no internal injuries that I can't see... I've been checking on her obsessively all night, and all day today...

for those paying attention to Olivia's thread, Gwynny is the mother of Larry, Curly, Moe, and Connor, hatched March 3rd, (4 months ago) and we love her DEARLY.

here's more on the story and a few pictures:

.

hope ya don't mind me sorta changing the subject, Ro... but it IS related, and about a bird rescue operation, and about keeping a bird indoors, AND about possibly violating some law I never knew about (well, not me, but my employee)

okay, back to your wild birds discussion, lol, and forgive me!

.

.

.

oh, and before I forget, I'm so HAPPY Maxie is thriving under your tender ministrations, dearie...

you GO, Ro !!

A

that's too bad about Gwynneth Goose. I have really enjoyed her starring role in your Wok-Wok thread. And her babies are so cute!

But HOUSTON, WE HAVE A PROBLEM!

Since around noon little Maxie is being quite particular about what she eats!
.
I've made an effort to trade between raw burger, canned dog food and soggy dry dog food. I've added in a little corn meal for digestion.

All of a sudden she is rejecting her loaded toothpick! She'll open her beak, then turn her head when the food is within range. Just like a kid in the highchair when you're introducing strained peas!
.

I made DH and 9yo grandson, Chad, dig up a couple of little nightcrawlers. Thankfully she ate them without hesitation. But now the guys have found some other activites to do, so I guess I'll have to get the shovel and turn over some soil.

I won't pick up a bug, so that is out of the question. *shudder*

lol, Twink, don't they have Drive-In bait shops in your area?

you can get a small cream-cheese tub-sized container of wonderful creepy-crawly worms for Maxie's delectation, easily, and neatly packaged.

.

Gwynny's resting quietly now, wish me luck, honey...

I told DH he could go buy some worms at the convenience store just a block from here, but why pay for something we've got in our front yard?
.

Poor little Gwynny! I hope she is able to recover from such a traumatic ordeal! Keep us posted, K?

I just gave her another wiggly worm. She is sitting beside me chirping -- trying to convince me she is still hungry!

This last worm wasn't fat, but it was prob 3 inches all stretched out. How do I know this, you are wondering: She swallowed about 2/3 of it, then I discovered that the rest was hanging out of her beak like a piece of spaghetti! So I pulled it, thinking she had bit it in two, but the w h o l e thing came out intact! So I snipped it into bite-sized bits and fed it to her again! Lol!
