I hope you're having good luck today Ms. Twink because I'm not. Took Bruna out to potty this morning and in a split second...baby bird flew up out of garden right in front of Bruna and she nabbed it in her mouth.

Took me awhile to get to the baby and finally had it in my hand. It was just limp.
.
Blinked its little eyes and gasping for breaths. I was frantic but poor little guy died in my hand.

It is a chickadee and I think it flew out of one of the houses on my porch. (I have an open porch.)

There are 2 chickadees at each of the houses and they sit on the front of them facing each other guarding the holes to the houses. One left and I saw a baby bird come out, fly around and back into the house. So I think this one flew out and couldn't make it back.

The parent(s) are making a big commotion out there and to top it off, there is a wren flitting from house to house with nesting material in its mouth as if its demanding for them to break their lease and leave. So the wren and one of the chickadees are 'battling' it out.

I just feel awful but it happened in a matter of a couple of seconds.
.

I hope everything is okay with Maxie this morning. It blows my little mind that you are putting so much love and effort into little Maxie. I admire you for that.

that's too bad Doody! Poor wittle thing.

Maxie knows new words! Up until this morning she only knew how to cry pitifully: "Pleeeeease!" As in, "Please feed me!"

Now she seems to say, "Pleeeease. *pause* Hey there!" She's beginning to sound more like Mom and Dad. I think she might have picked it up in the petunia pot this morning as her parents carried on about their business of finding bugs.

Yesterday after the parade, I saw her parents for the first time since we found her, and so put Maxie on the lawn to see if anything would happen. Nothing. I was concerned about a cat attack, so perched her in my big ole tree on a low-hanging limb. It was a little forked twig, so she had additional support to her breast if she needed it.

One of her parents eventually did a fly-by from the telephone wire and scared Ms. Maxie. I ran to her rescue, cause she was hanging upside down by one foot!!!
.
I righted her and warned her to be more careful! We had a BBQ on the front lawn and everyone observed as her parents looked, but did not fly to her side.
.

I know they have other babies way up high in the tree b/c I can hear them occasionally. Also, DH said he saw a cat get dive-bombed by one of them!

Aww, thanks Twink. I'm glad to hear from you and that Maxie is still thriving AND learning how to talk.

.

I can just picture your antics with Maxie! LOL!

Ya know, that baby birdy...was the very first thing I've ever buried by myself?
.
My whole life my dad has buried my animals for me because I just can't do it. I gave the baby a proper burial as deep as I could in my flower garden and bid the baby farewell.

Sooooo...does Maxie sleep next to your bed at night?
