Oh my, was so enthused with the pictures didn't even see the last. Feel better ((Mrs. D)).

I loved both pictures. I guess because I see more deer than rainbows I have to declare that was an awesome rainbow. So glad you got to capture it and thanks for taking the time to share with us. Hope your GI issues get better soon.

Red face re:GI attack..

This is an ongoing problem for me...with my birth defect.

But usually I have it under control. This all started for me when I had some Hershey's candy. When I get back I will make a new post on this problem...I need to research it a bit first.

About 2 yrs ago Hershey's came out with a new Kiss...with cherry inside. I bought some, since I love that combo, but since I don't eat candy alot, the bag went stale. I threw it away. But they were good. So I picked up one at WalMart before we left, thinking a little dessert now and then would be nice.

Well, I didn't look at the ingredients, since I had them before.
Hershey's has reformulated them. I noticed it right away. They had less chocolate and more cherry cordial, and melted fast in the mouth--too fast. Next day I was in the outhouse too much! Very unpleasant. I thought I had a bad food thing...which is always possible up here. So I went on clear fluids and didn't eat for a couple of days, and it went away.
So I started gently with food, and had about 5 of the kisses that night, and bingo....AGAIN....This time during a horrible thunderstorm...not a good time to have diarrhea in an outhouse, believe ME.
.

So I got the candy out and read the fine print....
Sorbitol (this is a sweetener which is used as a LAXATIVE)
and a new emulsifier with cryptic letters--LPGR or something like that!
I had to wait to Monday to call the toll free number.
The LPGR comes from CASTOR BEANS.... you know another laxative! They wouldn't tell me how much sorbitol was in each one...but excused themselves with lame FDA data...they don't have to warn if the serving is less than 50 grams sorbitol! I am not happy about this...and I bet others have become ill and not realized it was the candy!

I have to log off now...some update is going to shut me down...will be back...

So in order to get thru the night the second time I took a heavy dose of Imodium and then the opposite happened. So I did some Benefiber to help relieve that and now I am totally a mess. As long as I don't eat, I seem okay, but the cramping and fast transit is very bad with food.

Looks like it is going to be an "Imodium" summer.

But I am not happy with Hershey's. And I think the new castor bean emulsifier is evil as well. It is now in all the chocolate..dark and regular. I checked my husband's stash and there it was.. but there was no sorbitol in the regular candy bars. When I get back I will research this and post on the supplement forum what I learn. Just goes to show you how the food industry is ruining us! Hershey's didn't even send me coupons for another product!
I really didn't like the woman's TONE on the phone either, she was superior and acted like I was a "nut"...So they will get some internet coverage now as a result. I'd like to take those food techs who make the ingredient decisions and stick them in an outhouse during a storm with a sorbitol diarrhea!!! HA!

Oh WOW Mrs. D! You poor thing. And thanks for that info. I have ulcerative colitis and this last year (I had been in remission) it's really been flaring terribly. (I get my annual colonoscopy in October so hope it's okay.) But...now I'm wondering if that's the reason I suddenly have been so bad with chocolate. I AM A CHOCOHOLIC!!!!

My system has really been changing with age. Well, I know as you age there are foods that your body doesn't agree with anymore, but I've been discovering so many things that just kick up my UC almost immediately. Love popcorn...can't eat it anymore unless I want to deal with the outcome. Fruits like cherries etc...oi vey. I can eat a few and after that....it's not purdy!

OMG an outhouse in a thunderstorm. How so very not pleasant.
.

Well, they give me Asacol for my UC and I've also noticed that I can't skip a dose anymore. I have to take the 9 pills a day.

Feel better Mrs. D!

BOO ON HERSHEY'S!!!!!! GOOD GRIEF!!!!

Thumbs Down Hershey's

Oh mrsD that's horrible. I'll help maybe - Hershey's =Hospital !!

I say this as my husband has had some type problem and had to go to hospital as well. Diaherrah, can't eat, then a beginning infection. He is better but guess what? He loves dark chocklate and as I type this there is a half eaten bag of dark M&M Hershey with peanuts on his bedside.

I'd best check this out. Thanks for telling us about it and I hope you get better and soon. Summer does not last long enough some years and I hope you get to enjoy the rest of vacation as healthy as you can be and symptom free of problems.

this will be brief, as I am on my sons iPhone and can't type on this thing
.
m&ms do not have sorbitol and pgpr in them to my knowledge, but did find sorbitol in liquigels like aleve so far. Chocholate is limited to heysheys so far so read your labels carefully ! I'll be back In a week and a half.
