Maybe not something I could do everyday, but I thought, for special occasions this would be fun. Or at least while there are all these food recalls, we could have a safe snack for the pets.
There are some pretty easy treats to make, lots of recipes on this site. Knowing my dogs, the bacon ones will be a hit. .

Three Dog Bakery has a good one:
1 cup natural Peanut Butter 1 cup skim milk 1 T. baking powder 2 cups whole wheat flour mix together, roll dough out flat, and cut into favorite shapes. Bake at 375 for 20 minutes. (I roll dough into long snake shape and slice into 1 inch pieces)

Tuna Brownies
2 cans Tuna, drained but save the liquid 2 eggs (or equivalent egg beater product) 1 Teaspoon garlic powder (not garlic salt!) 1½ cups flour (any type - regular, wheat, rice or potato - just adjust the liquid) Mix all together, adding enough tuna liquid to make a brownie consistency batter. Spread into a pan. (spray the pan lightly with Pam and sprinkle with flour to prevent sticking.) Bake at 300 for 20-30 minutes, until browned and not sticky. Cool slightly. Cut into treat size squares. Freezes well. Kitties love em too!

Jaded - thanks! My dogs love tuna! They totally freak when they hear the can opener.
I'll let you know how that goes.

I have a chicken bone recipe...easy to make...
Take cup of flour and add chicken stock until you have a 'biscuit' like dough. Let stand for a few minutes...then roll into logs...put on a cookie sheet and bake for about 15 minutes @ 350 to 400 degrees... cool and leave out until they get hard...put them in the freezer until you need...one of my dogs loves them right out the freezer when its hot outside... I haven't made them in awhile...glad you started this thread. . |
