Grandmonkey's Teddy Bear Hamsters sound so cute
.

I love hamsters. I have never had Teddy Bear Hamsters before but have kept several Syrian Hamsters and Russian Dwarf Hamsters since I was quite young. I've also kept Guinea Pig's, I found the hamsters to be more suitable for children, although everyone is different. At the moment, I have 2 dwarf Russian hamsters called Honey and Coco and they are so cute!! My mom got me them just over a month ago and they love coming out of their cage and being handled. I'm glad that grandmonkey's hamsters like coming out already, if you can handle them from when you first get them, you can normally handle them throughout the whole of their lives. I always found the female hamsters to be better as they don't seem to bite as much and seem to come out of their cage more than the males, but I think it depends where you get them from as to how used to being handled they are.

I hope Grandmonkey has a lot of fun with the hamsters! I love their names
.

MrsD: That picture was sooo cute! Thanks for sharing it with us all!

We've not had hamsters but have populated most of the East Coast with gerbils - did love them - they're clean - don't smell - don't need their cages changed all the time - can make a nest out of a paper towel cylinder in 10 minutes flat - don't bite - but don't ever trust anyone who says they can tell the sexes apart - amazing how fast they can reproduce !!!!!!

We have had both.
Guini Pigs stink & are messy. The computer desk was right next to them & I sat there for a long time each day. My waist started to itch then after awhile I noticed spots. I went to my Dr. thinking maybe it was from my Lamictal but it was bites from some insect.
Hampsters were better (& smaller cage). One day my son called us at dinner to say there were finger sized things in the cage. You know what they were. She was pregnant when we got her & didn't know it. Later she had babies again cuz we kept the 'kids' (at least one boy) with her.

Lor, I've had lots of guinea pigs myself, including my own and when my daughter was little. They are stinky little things and they sure do pooh a lot. They are veritable poop shoots.
.

I thought mine were cuddly though. I loved when they would do that chortle.

But yeah, they do get stinky.

Not that parts of hamster cages don't. My daughter cleans out the 'toitey' section of their hamster cage very often.
