So very sorry about your loss. Yes, even the best trained dalmation can turn and snap without warning. Several years ago, I saw an AKC dog show where a gorgeous dalamation had won best of breed and on to best of group. At best of show, the dog snapped at the judge when being examined. He was excused from the ring, on the spot. Deep sigh. :(

The bottom line is he was YOUR fur baby and eventually fit into your home. That is a blessing. Check out Rainbow Bridge. Sending comfort your way.

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. This is what we were given when we lost one of our cats.

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food and water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:
they miss someone very special to them who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.

The bright eyes are intent; the eager body quivers.
Suddenly he begins to break away from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

YOU have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together. . . .

I'm sorry I didn't see this earlier, but hope you know that I'm sorry about your lil poochie. Mine are getting older and it's just such a scary thought of not having them.

Hope you are doing ok and I'm thinking of you.

Older dog died today

Hi Vowel Lady,
As a pet lover myself, my thoughts and prayers go out to you. It's so sad losing a pet because they really are a member of the family. I lost my Tia eleven years ago and some days it still hurts. A nice framed photo of him will always keep him close to you. Hugs and all the best. Bonnie (Sundog30)

Many years ago, we adopted a stray dalmation. Hard to say his age. Older than a puppy...Maybe a year or two in age.
He had been terrorizing my daughter's friend's family because they had cats. They had threated to call the pound.
The problem was that he had not collar, seem to be beaten, and had a broken leg.We knew in our hearts that no one would adopt him.
My daughter begged me to take him and I did.
We took him to the vet, put a cast on his leg and nursed him back to health.
The weird thing about him is that although he was lovable to my dau and I, he hated men. I mean hated them. It took a long time for him accept my husband and son, but until old age set in, those were the only two men he gave a pass to. This, in some ways, came in handy. When my husband would work at night, I often felt kinda safe having this big male dalmation around. He stayed outside usually during the day. Outside, he had a big dog house under a tree. We kept him outside a lot because he was not fully housebroken. And if he got jealous of our other pets, he would sometimes "mark" furniture! However, we brought him inside during the day when the weather was bad, including very hot weather. I also brought him inside if I was frightened. He came inside at night and had this big thick rug he laid on under the piano. That was his Kingdom. He had a very "elegant" evening "dog house."

It's been well over a decade. He's had various health problems. He became deaf. He has had trouble seeing. The broken leg never healed correctly and he had great difficulty walking. This led to a bad hip problem. He's had trouble breathing lately. He lost total control of his toiletry habits. His pain has increased in recent weeks and he has been wimpering...which is unusual for him.

This morning, we had him put to sleep. We waited for the doctor to give him the first shot to relax him. We told him that we loved him and he was a good boy. Then we left. It has been very hard and we have not stopped crying.

:Sob:

We do have his collar and I am wondering what others have done to memoralize their lost pets.

Vowel Lady,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your furbaby. They become family. This is a beautiful poem called the rainbow bridge. I don't know if you ever read it, but it helped me when I lost my pup. My prayers are with you:hug:
