I am so sorry that your friend is gone. We had to put down our dog we got from my brother as a wedding gift. He lived 13 years. He was a Rottweiler/Akita mix. Our Mr Khan...
When he died we took him to be cremated and they made a print of his paw along with his dog tag plus a tuff of hair and put it in a picture frame with a copy of the Rainbow Bridge poem. I look at it now and then but the picture of him I love is him laying around my daughter when she was about 2. He surrounded her little body and they both have a big smile on their faces. I have that one out on the piano and look at it all the time. It is so hard to lose a pet but I wanted to thank you for saving a dog and showing it love for the time it had left here on earth...Sue

So sorry about your loss. You might think about going to Rainbow Bridge. It is a marvelous internet place to memorialize your furbaby. There are web boards for support. I go there about once a month to read about all of the wonderful pets who have crossed the bridge. Hang in there. The day WILL come when the joy from the memories will far outweigh the pain.

my husband made a wooden picture frame with several different pictures in it and somehow folded the collar with tags and nailed it at the bottom of the frame, its really very nice.

I am sorry for your loss and sorry I just saw this....
I had a golden retriever that passed at 16 from Cancer. She was a Pet Therapy dog, I would take her to the local hospital and nursing home to visit the patients. When we went I would put a bandana on her - after she passed my mom took all the bandana and made a small quilt out of them. It was so cute! When we got the second puppy I used the quilt as her bed, I felt like Prudence (Golden) was taking care of Indy (new Chocolate Lab) and helping us raise her..... We also took pictures of her and put them in a frame - My oldest DD has it now.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have been on vacation and am a bit late with my respnse.
I am in tears reading these posts. I am still missing my Sweet Nala I put her down almost 3 yrs ago. I have her picture in a special frame that I had made for her. I also have a tatoo of her with angels wings, because she was an angel. I wish someone had given little Jesus a dog As loyal and loving as mine To sleep by His manger and gaze in His eyes And adore him for being devine. As our Lord grew to manhood His faithful dog Would have followed him all through the day While he preached to the crowds, Made the sick well And knelt in the garden to pray. It is sad to remember that Christ went away To face death alone and apart With no tender dog following close behind To comfort the Master's heart. When Jesus rose that easter morn, How happy He would have been as His dog Kissed His hand and barked its' delight For the one who had died for all men. Well, the Lord has a dog now; I just sent him mine, the one so dear to me- And I smile through my tears On this first day alone Knowing they are in eternity.

Vowel Lady - I am so sorry to hear that your companion has died. I know your pain. Our wonderful boxer, "Henry" died this morning. He was such a joy to us! He was 3 1/2 years old and his death was very unexpected. He was given to me as an anniversay gift 3 years ago and died on our anniversary. I wonder if there is a message there? He was just a kind, mild mannered, gentleman and we are heartbroken. I guess time will heal us both... |

Leslie, I am so sorry.
We have another dog, a little one, that got very sick when she was age four. This was last summer. She had to have surgery and did well. I recall how depsondent I was with great worry. The younger age does add another dimension to it. It is very, very hard. Yes, give yourself time. I am very sorry for your loss. |

I'm so sorry to hear about your precious dalmation VL. Our pets hold a special place in our hearts with their unconditional love, and the rescued little ones seem even more grateful. My "ex" had a dalmation when we first started dating many moons ago. Her name was Cindy and she was the sweetest girl. She had the funniest habit when riding in the car. He had a small staton wagon and she would stand on the back seat and rest her chin on top of his head. Kind of looked like a Halloween costume with a dalmation on his head!
Last October 22, 2007, I had to have my 15-1/2 year old Bichon Frise put to sleep due to mostly old age. Her little body just wore out. That is the most horrible thing to have to go through, but somebody told me the following that really helped. You took your best friend's pain upon yourself so she/he wouldn't have to suffer anymore. I truly believe we'll be reunited one day. I have her ashes tucked away, it still hurts too much to look at it with her name, Susan, written on a plaque on the wooden box,but I've told my adult kids when my time comes, I'd like her ashes to be put in with me. I know that's not really her, but then it won't really be me either. Leslie, I'm so sorry to hear about your Boxer too. My heart goes out to you at this horrible time. Time does ease the pain somewhat, but we never forget. As someone suggested, the Rainbow Bridge website has been a big help and In Memory of Pets is another. Somehow talking with others who are or have been in the same place you are now, helps. Hugs to both of you and your families. .
