Doody

Seems he is doing well. The bladder expressing is very important, Im sure the Drs told her about UTIs if he is not expressed properly. She will know if he gets one as his urine will smell very foul.

She might want to think about getting him a belly band if he starts dribbling between being expressed.

Thank you for the update. I love the laundry basket idea.

I've been meaning to ask is he still on anti inflammatory meds? If so I hope the drs recommended pepcid for his tummy. WHen Mya was on it she kept vomiting and another doxie owner told me yo give her pepcid and she was fine.

Oh yes, daughter has the expressing down pat! Now I hope I can because he's staying with me during the week. I'll find out before bedtime when I try so pleaseeeee cross your fingers for me that I can do it! He is now sometimes doing it on his own, a few times he has.

And no, he isn't on any medicines since he left the clinic.

My massage therapist wanted to see him so daughter and I took him there after work. She did some craniosacral therapy on him and you could really see his demeanor change. It was amazing.

He's in his great big crate in the kitchen resting and chewing on his favorite bone treat. We had to give him a bath as he had gone #2 in the crate. He also has urine burn on the inside of his thighs so he needed to be rinsed off.

Thank you.

WOW going on his own is great!! Sone people swear by acupuncture and massage therapy. Aqua therapy has done wonders on some downed puppers too.

I'm sure you will do fine, but I'll keep my finger crossed that you are able to "Express Yourself" successfully!!

If the times comes ( I'm praying it won't) I have a resource for very cheap (some free) carts. They are not the fancy dancy ones you see, but they do the job.

Otto is in my thoughts every day.

Thanks Dottie.

It was a really rough night. I think my 4 cats and Bruna made it even more difficult. It was pretty awful in fact. Though I was fairly successful with the expressing.

I don't know how caregivers do it. I'm exhausted and exasperated and we're talking here about a dog, not a human.
.
I don't know if I can do this for the kids or not but I don't have the heart to tell them.

See, he's with me because they commute here everyday for work. So rather than drag Otto back and forth every day, we decided to leave him at my house and at lunch they would go take care of him. But, the rest of the day is laid at my feet, I'm only 1 day out and well.
.

.

And unbeknownst to me in the middle of the night he got out of the big laundry basket in my bed and I awoke to the soiund of him falling on the floor.

And that's just part of it. Don't think I slept more than a few hours at most.

Okay, I'm whining, better stop.

Oh ((((((((((Doody))))))))))) Im sorry things didn't go well. I really think he needs a crate, Just small enough for him to turn around, the point is to limit mobilty as much as possible to aid healing. This is the crate I used for Mya.

Let me ship it overnight to you or your daughter. OK?

Oh, no Dottie, I wouldn't think of it. That's a very nice/expensive cage. I think they are going to bring grandson's pack and play.

Thank you so much.
.

I'm still so upset about last night. I so think he would be happier and more comfortable at the kid's house.

He is probably not going to be to happy anywhere. I was fortunate with Mya for the first couple of weeks after her surgery she was still on muscle relaxers and pain meds so didnt' mind being in the crate, she slept most of the time.

Its very difficult to keep them crated, I just kept telling myself its for her own good. The pack and play will be a good (safer) alternative when you are trying to sleep. If you decide to keep him tonight I'm sure you will have a better night. Just like humans the first night somewhere is always difficult.

(((((Otto))))) ((((((Doody))))))

Doody the offer stands for the crate. I haven't used it in almost a year.

Doody, can you ask the vet about some meds for Otto?

Thanks you guys.

I don't know about the meds Mistiis. Last night I put him in his crate and had it in the kitchen. I could still hear him from my bedroom but finally fell asleep. Got up a couple times with him. I'm tired.

The kids take him to the vet today to have his staples out. He can't eat or drink so they must anesthetize him for that I guess.

Things remain about the same. Sometimes I'm successful at expressing him, most of the time.

The kids will have him the rest of the week starting tomorrow so I can get some sleep!
