A lot of people would have passed these two up due to their age, and they would have missed out on such great dogs.

I saw that time and time again at the Humane Society where I worked right out of high school. It was heartbreaking. They wouldn't adopt any animal out over 5 years old or with any kind of disability. There was a beautiful tri-color Lassie collie who was blind and 13. She was from a situation like yours. She didn't want to mess her run, walked beautifully on a leash, loved people and other animals, and listened like a treat. But they wouldn't let even ME take her. And I cried when I had to put her to sleep. She was such a gentle, sweet dog and such a good girl who suffered a tragic loss of her owner.....

I'm so happy for rescue groups and people who are willing to go the extra distance to have a loving friend who might be up there in animal years.

Brain, you're a real sweetie! But, ahem, I already knew that. And go figure....... you now have a lovely girl named Holly. Coincidence? I think not!

I don't believe in coincidence. I think there's a reason for everything, and what looks like coincidence is just a sign that you're on the right path, where you're supposed to be.

I always look for those signposts so I don't get too lost.

The funny thing is we were'nt looking for a dog. And it's always ME calling dh into the den, begging for a pet, and him saying how we already have so many.

This time, he stumbled upon them and called me in to have a look.

(I think Sarah McGlaughlin's commercials got to him. I really do)

He knows better. Show me a critter and I own a critter.

You should have seen though, when I walked out of Pet Smart with Millie, you'd have thought I just ended world hunger. Every planned pethood volunteer thanked me for adopting Millie. All the customers thanked me. All the people who worked at the pet store thanked me.

Finally I asked the cashier, what's the big deal? PP does adoptathons in here every week - so why is this any different.

Nobody thought Millie was getting a home. They all loved her, but with all the red marks on her file, and at her age?

Holly had half a shot, even at 8, but not Millie.

I got her out in the parking lot and cried my eyes out. All I could think was what if that had been my Sophie? What if something had happened to me, would somebody have the heart to take her in?
Took me 10 mins before I could even get the key in the car.

Too many dogs like that.

And oddly, even though I spend all day with the dogs, as soon as dh comes home, or wakes up and comes downstairs, the girls go right to him. They know who's idea this was. They know.

So this makes 5 dogs total we've *gotten out of the system* so far. How many puppies were not born, to a similar fate, since all mine were spayed/neutered and not from breeders or mills, I can't even guess.

With Millie and Holly in a home, they have room to save 2 more.

Lucky lucky me, covered in bird poop and dog hair.

They are so adorable! I can't wait to hear more stories about how they continue to blend (hopefully) into your family! I came from a dog forum where I was active to here, but now I just keep searching out pet stories! Soon, I will dive more into pain stuff (ugh).

What rescue did you get them from? Thank you for helping such deserving fluffs!
