I know it! I wonder why in the world the owners didn't know this ahead of time and hire a different handler? But then supposedly nobody knows who the judges are ahead of time.

They talked about that last night. Judges are chosen 2 years in advance and it's supposed to be kept a 'secret' but of course it gets out. Maybe the airedale owners had no clue.

What a rip!

My favorites to watch have always been the working, sporting and herding dogs.

A

the oldest doggie in history to win at Westminster.

Stump, the Sussex Spaniel, was absolutely gorgeous.
.

Course, all you have to do is do a search for Stump the Sussex and he pops up on all kinds of news sites today! Popular guy this next year!

.

Actually, I'm trying to think of a different way to say the above, ROFL! He's not the oldest doggie in history. He's the oldest doggie in Westminster history to win.

Thumbs up Oh,my....

I watched some yesterday and today on rerun on USA network.

That Stump spaniel--- sure reminded me of the dog I grew up with... a red cocker.

He was so funny...He stood up on his hind legs for the crowd!
I also enjoyed the brief interview with his unpretentious owner!

I cried my eyes out! (don't tell anyone, please).

I think it is amazing that this dog won, above all the meticulous competitive owners! He was a TRUE dog! I have to commend the judge for her choice!

Oh don't worry ((Mrs. D)). We won't tell anyone you cried your eyes out!
.

I know, when he stood up on his hind legs he was so cute!!! His display reminded me so much of the Papillon win quite a few years past. Kirby in 1999 I believe. I don't think that display can ever be topped! Poor sweet gorgeous baby died in 2007. 16 years old.
.

I found this sweet ode to Kirby and this lady really caught the essence of Kirby the night he won.

Quote:
Ode to Kirby

Oh, little one with sparkling eyes,
You captured hearts and won the prize!

Your joy and energy filled the hall
And touched the people . . . one and all.

From whence does this fountain of vigor arise?
Do you hold the secret behind those big eyes?

And where did you learn to prance so sure --
Brimming with confidence, and yet demure?

Though short in stature compared to the rest
You proved to us all that small can be best.

It's not the size of the package that wins,
But the strength of the heart and spirit within.

For you have given us all a gift --
A glimpse of perfection that's sure to uplift.

And what thoughts do pass through that beautiful head?
Winning? Or simply enjoyment instead?

You seemed so relaxed and happy as well,
If you felt any nerves, no one could tell.

What a joy and delight to witness your spunk.
You easily did the Toy Dog myth debunk!

The first Papillon to win this award,
The crowd was enthralled and loudly they roared.

You stood in that silver cup happy and proud.
Your eyes seemed to welcome and savor the crowd.

Your little paws perched on the edge of that cup,
Your lovely head still, your eyes looking up.

What a picture you made for all who did see --
How cute and yet regal one small dog could be.

And so, lively Papillon, long may you reign.
Your beauty and spirit we'll not see again.
