Thank you so much for the update. I'm sorry for the dx but glad that you can treat your fur baby at home. I hope he responds well to the treatment. I'm glad to hear that it's a pill and nothing more invasive. Please keep us updated on his recovery. I'm praying for him!

I hope your kitty, responds to the meds. Cats are very surprising creatures, and she may surprise you.
At least you have some more time with her, so you can adjust to the future which for you, you know is coming. When our cancer kitty got her final diagnosis, she lived 6 more months without drugs. (I was surprised). I did have to carry her around some up and down stairs etc. The vet said to bring her in if she changed at all, and one day she was bleeding rectally and that was the signal. Only 1 in 30 of thyroid nodules are cancerous, and hers was! I was devastated, we thought the surgery cured her. This was back when, thyroid disease was just showing up in cats. She was the 2nd the Vet surgeon had done at that time. She recovered quickly but then started coughing etc, and that is when we found it had spread to her lungs. .

((Quahog)) I'm so sorry the tests confirmed their suspicions. I hope you baby does respond to the treatment. Sounds like what my Sweetie Pie had. They couldn't remove her's either. By the time it was figured out, though, it was really bad. It sounds to me like you've caught this early enough that it might be treatable.
Please keep us updated. .

I spoke with the Vet today and it is Lymphoma confirmed via Cytology
We don't however know what type of Lymphoma it is. large cell, small cell, etc. Another test would need to be performed for that but the vet doesn't think it is absolutely necessary. There is some evidence that it might be large cell but there does seem to be small cells present as well. She feels that Tabby would more than likely benefit from a chemotherapy protocol. We just need to decide on one. It can be quite time consuming an expensive (Just like everything else) She Spoke with my mother last night who thought I shouldn't do it because it would be fair to the cat and to us to incur the expense but obviously it is my and my wife's decision and not my mother's Needless to say my wife is a bit upset by my mother's opinion. Wow is this decision killing me. I want to make the right choice one that is best for our finances and above all one that is best for our cat. I have plans to visit the vet again sometime either this week or next so we can decide. This will be the local vet specialist as I do not think weekly 2-3 hour trips to Boston or 4-5 hour weekly trip to North Grafton will be good for anyone and it really won't save us anything in the long run. |

Glenn,
So sorry to hear about your cat. I'm going through this right now. My cat was diagnosed with abdominal carcinomatosis several weeks ago. He lost 6 pounds in about a month and 1/2 with vomiting and diarrhea. The Vet said surgery or even chemo isn't recommended-it's too far advanced. We're devastated. We didn't think he'd make it a week after diagnosis, but he's still here! I requested some meds to help him with his symptoms... Here's the regimen I have him on: 1) Reglan - helps with nausa/vomiting/stomach motility - works very well 2) Cyproheptadine- appetitie stimulant...works great..he's eating on his own 3) Pepcid AC- reduces stomach acid/nausea 4) Sub Q fluids- since he's not drinking, but getting fluids through only wet food I feed him-this helps supplement lost electrolytes...give him approx 50mls once every couple of days. We'll, even though he's a bit out of most of the time being very lethagic, he still has the strength to knead, he's eating, using his litter box, and want's to sit close to me. I'm hoping he hangs in there, keeping up his strength by eating and giving him lot's of love. Freeda |
