Oh, that is a shame! I am sorry it had to happen that way.

We had to take the other 2 babies out of the cage once they came out of the nest, because they looked half naked, because their feathers had been plucked out around the back head and chest! We first thought they had been pecking eachother in the crowded nest, but I watched for a while yesterday, and realized it was the mother who was pecking them! Seems she's had enough of them now, and is rejecting them now that they are out of the nest...who knows!
One of the babies is lively and very scared after being picked on and plucked, so it's going to take a bit of time to tame him! The other one looks a bit sickly now, so maybe only one might survive... Oh, the joys of breeding cockatiels! lol Well, the mother won't be breeding anymore now, as she no longer has a mate, and I think it will stay that way! lol . ~Jaime~

I'm so sorry!
. I think you did the right thing, taking the other babies out. some mothers aren't so great at raising young. Are these her first bunch? Was she raised by hand or by her real mother? Those things might make a difference at how well she does caring for chicks. Good luck with your babies. Keep us posted - the suspense is killing me! I could never raise anything. I'd end up with hundreds of them because I couldn't get rid of any of them. Mine! All mine! .

No, it's not her first, Georgie was her first baby 12 months ago, and then Charlie was born 3 months ago. But I think the problem is that we took away the father before we realized she was sitting on more eggs again. She then had the 3 babies, and did a good job of keeping them fed on her own, until they were ready to come out of the nest.
But now, there is only one baby left, the 2nd one died yesterday. The surviving baby is doing alright, but is very jumpy, and rather featherless! lol Hopefully he'll recover now we have him inside. ~Jaime~

I'm sorry Jaime but I didn't see your recent posts until now, so am only now reading that your little ones didn't make it. I'm so sorry!
. I remember when we had love birds, we only had one baby out of 3 survive. One mother had one baby and the other had 2. We were new to breeding so didn't know we had to take the babies from the nest. One mother bird pecked at her twins and they both died. Luckily the other baby did survive. I hope your remaining baby does well. I'll be thinking about it and waiting patiently for an update.

Oh Jaime, I'm so sorry!
. Koala, they say *lovebird* is really an odd name for those birds, They can be really lovey, but they are one of the worst for attacking other birds. I know mine will go after my biggest bird every chance she gets - she's small as my thumb and the parrot is as big as a blue jay, but Minnie doesn't care. She has a thing about him and she'll fly right into his cage! . And the weird thing was, we had another parrot, identical - his sister! - and Minnie adored her. Used to sing to her, call her sweetie. Go figure. No accounting for birds' affections. She's very sweet to me though. Never bit a person in her life.

Oh, he is cute. Poor baby... getting all that abuse from his mama!
I hope he survives for you.

So far, the little one is doing well, eating everything we give him, and his feathers are starting to grow back.

. What a little cutie! Can you tell if it's a boy or girl yet? I like Daphne if it turns out to be a girl.
