Have a friend dealing with it right now and has been for a number of years since she had chemo. There are so very many kinds of chemo. Some kinds are known to do this.
I found it interesting that it can also come from having had radiation.

Hi all,
I think I may have found the cause of my SFN. I requested to look at my chart at the GP's office. I just wanted to see if I had a bacterial or viral infection around the time I developed symptoms. I was there today. Turns out I took avelox 400mgs for ten days starting on July 1st, 2008. My symptoms started in July of 2008. I was down the shore when they started so I know it was July. I didn't see my GP until August I think. I thought the symptoms would go away. Could this be the cause. Did I just find my answer? |

Yes, it could be a factor. Sometimes there
Will be other triggers present at the same Time and that could be additive when Only one would perhaps be less. Viral infections and vaccines can also be Culprits.

There was also a research study article put in the journal of neurology in 2013. Research proves avelox causes peripheral neuropathy. So sad that this caused all be caused by an antibiotic. |

I just found your post about meds being responsible for PN. Hubby has Small Fiber Neuropathy...I have horrific PN but due to 2 23 hr surgeries over last 4 yrs, leaving me with 52 screws, 4 rods and a neck plate, I did not go for the bx to find out why or what type of neuropathy... heck, like many have more things wrong than days in a month. ANYWAY...
I am very new to this forum but hubby has been saying for at least this past yr. if not longer that he feels our high doses of diff kinds of pain meds , given by a very well known doc here in Ca has lead to our nerve pain. I do not understand much of what I read lately but am sending him your info. So he can go through it. I want to thank you & tell you how very grateful we are for all the research. Peace, Blessings & Health Renee'Tina |

you can also find "Neuropathy" listed on some sites under Central and Peripheral Nervous System. I have used Ambien for years as prescribed by my doctor and took it continuously this past year since January. I stopped 10 days ago after reading about it. My pulmonary doctor put me on azithromycin 250 mg a day for 2 months May and June as a trial to see if it would effect a chronic cough I've had for 25 years. It didn't do anything so I went off the meds. I don't know if they had affected me as I was already having symptoms (they began the end of February) but I doubt it was helpful. 2 weeks before my symptoms I had an outrageous outbreak of fever blisters from stress. I know this comes from the herpes virus but I don't know if this variety could have cause my PN outbreak. To add to the mix I have a funky spine. I'm thinking it all created the perfect storm.. Do you think I would benefit from NAC? I currently take D3, B12, Grape Seed, Omega 3, Curcumin, Folic Acid, Magnesium lactate, Zinc and 200mg Gabapentin before bed. I plan to try weaning off the Gabapentin and replacing it with Benfotiamine. I don't want to over medicate myself and I may be doing that? Thank you for putting so much wonderful information out here for us to be able to access. I am grateful. |
