R-lipoic 100mg stabilized (the more soluble one) is equal to about 600mg of the mixed Alpha type (which is only 300mg R not stabilized.

Because it is absorbed so quickly and completely, the R-lipoic
stabilized may only need 100mg a day.

There are some sites on the net that recommend delayed release ALA...(the old type) and these tend to be quite expensive.

A somewhat related question: I'm switching from AlphaLipoic to R-Lipoic. The Alpha was supposed to be taken on an empty stomach. I've searched the forum and don't see any posts indicating that the same is true for R-Lipoic. Right?

Well, the advice for empty stomach was because the old Alpha type was not well absorbed. I don't think the studies were done with the Stabilized form called Na lipoate. The stabilized form is highly water soluble and was tested as quickly going into the
blood stream. But they didn't add the food status that I recall.

So if you can tolerate it, take it without food. Some posters here have said they get heartburn from it that way, however.

There is an R form that is not stabilized. So read the labels carefully.
