Default Essential Oils

I have for the past two months have been taking vitamins made from esential oils and rubbing oil on my feet and up my legs. My PN symptoms seem to have lessened. Less pain and burning in my feet and hands. Not saying it is a cure all or that it will work for everyone. Oils and vitamins are not cheap but are certified therapeutic grade. Testing of oils done by outside company.

What vitamins from essential oils? Do you mean fish oils? Which provide essential fatty acids?

I'm assuming that the essential oils are not the EFA's and are added to the vitamins. There are a couple of companies that manufacture and promote the internal use of essential oils. Even though I have used some essential oils orally, I'm not a fan of liberal ingestion of them especially over a long period of time. There's just not enough data to support the liberal use of them internally. With essential oils, l will always caution on a conservative approach.

Sorry, but there's no such thing.

That is true Doc. Lableing an oil therapeutic grade is how some have chosen to market their oils. I think part of it stems from the fact in a western medical model, people understand what that means and it makes it easier to market it to the masses.

Anyone who has trained in aromatherapy understands that quality is critical when using essential oils in a health related field. I don't doubt the quality of the oils used by double eagle. I just feel the messaging by some of these companies needs to be tempered. Just because something comes from nature does not mean there is no risk.

Well ya'll stay with your opinions I will keep using them and feeling better. The oils have been used since biblical times and there is a great deal of research being done by medical schools on the use. But I will mention it no more

My intent was not to discourage your use of essential oils, only to caution you on the long term use by ingestion. I have taken over 250 hours of certificate courses and have attended in-depth conferences on essential oils. I have over 76 oils in my possession so I do understand how effective they can be when used appropriately. But know they can also cause problems when not used appropriately. As with herbal medicine, it's always a good idea to take a break from it unless the herb is an adaptogen. Essential oils are much more powerful than the whole herb.

We use them daily in some form. I make my own body butter with a custom blend of essential oils for John's feet. I've used them on clients with great success. They may end up being the only thing that will combat these anti-biotic resistant infections effectively.

In this instance, I didn't offer an opinion—I stated a fact.

A lot of things have been around since biblical times, including snake oil, charlatanism, and Latin, e.g. caveat emptor—that's been the only message here that I can see.

I'm not sure what assumptions you've made—both links I cited were pro-(as in promoting) essential oils.

I'm glad you're feeling better. I hope—as Marlene mentions—you are not harmed by ingestion. I'm sorry if you were misled by deceptive marketing hype. Discussing that alone may be of benefit to others.

He/she is not talking about ingesting oils. "Essential oils" are applied to the skin. Someone in my local PN group reported pain relief from these as well. Here is one company: http://www.youngliving.com/en_US/pro...essential-oils

Ron,

Young Living makes some supplements that contain the essential oils. So if you take them, you are ingesting them.

We use EOs all the time and love them.
