Default Question for Mrs. D regarding R-Lipoic Acid

Hello Mrs D, and I hope that you have been well!

Could you please remind me again about dosing using R-Lipoic Acid as opposed to the older Alpha Lipoic Acid (ratio of one to another).

Also, is there any risk in taking 400mg of R-Lipoic Acid daily to possibly help early Glaucoma (loss of Ganglion Cells in retina).

I would take it as two divided doses of 200mg daily each on an empty stomach.

Many thanks!

David

Sorry to be late in replying.

There are two forms of r-lipoic acid. One is more effective than the other.

The more effective version today is NaRala. This dissolves more quickly in the stomach and therefore can be more effectively absorbed.

Bio-Enhanced(R) Na-Rala - GeroNova Research - R Lipoic Acid

Using the newest form of r-ala allows for lower doses necessary compared to the previous forms which have lower absorption rates.

Great to hear back, Mrs. D.!

I am currently using the "Doctors Best" brand of R-Lipoic Acid (100mg capsules), and taking two capsules AM on empty stomach and to capsules PM (total 400mg daily).

Here is what I am taking:

Doctor's Best Stabilized R-Lipoic Acid -- 1 mg - 6 Veggie Caps - Vitacost

Thoughts?

David

This is the same one I use too. But I don't take it very often.

I think 400mg of this is quite high and may not be necessary.
Do you get heartburn from it? I do.

By fixing the solubility of lipoic acid, such high doses are not needed for most situations. I am not finding new articles about this... and I am wondering why.

If you do try it, the posts about it say about 2 to 3 months to see improvement. I wouldn't take it longer than that if you don't see improvements.

I do not get heartburn, but rather more like some burning in my lower esophagus for a few miinutes after swallowing. Do you think that your type and brand would be better then the Doctors Best we are taking in terms of that?

I use the same as you. It is an acid and as such burns. It must bind to the tissue somehow and that worries me. That is why
I don't recommend it anymore.

So in conclusion, then, you recommend using this version of R-Lipoic Acid over the "Doctors Best" brand?

Bio-Enhanced(R) Na-Rala - GeroNova Research - R Lipoic Acid

Thanks!
