Just to let you all know, I do have PTSD also. I came down with it after 9-11, was diagnosed in 2003 as "the worst case I`ve ever seen outside a war zone" by the MD.

I have recovered a great deal, but it still, and at this point always will, affects my daily life.

I am coherent and articulate 9in my head) but its very hard to organize my thoughts and post correctly, so please bear with me - I am what I am.

I am sorry to hear you have PTSD, it definitely sucks.

I'm not sure about your Doctor saying "the worst case I`ve ever seen outside a war zone." PTSD is quite horrible regardless if the person is a Veteran or if a person has PTSD for another reason. The affects of PTSD are the same regardless and is life changing.

I have recovered a great deal, but it still, and at this point always will, affects my daily life.

Once someone has PTSD they will always have PTSD. With therapy and medications life can get better even with PTSD. Sometimes the road to improvement has it's ups and downs and can take time, sometimes years.

Lets talk about the Navy Yard Shooter. Yes, I am on lockdown in my house afraid to come out because I am afraid. I tried to go for a walk in the parks with my mom and our dogs. I saw a guy walking his dog and he had a big rectangular bag on his shoulder and all I thought it could be was a rifle. That isn't normal. But on the shooter at the Navy Yard, there are a lot of sick people out in the world. Sometimes I wonder why I am s lucky one that is getting treated. Why did I have the where with all to sell my weapon, granted, lately I wish I still had it for my protection.

My beef is that when people see me with my service dog, they look at me and some have even said "what are you training that dog?" I try hard with doctors and Meds to get s handle on my PTSD so I can go on with my life but since people can't see it it gets discounted. It is so frustrating. People act like I am a freak when I don't want to talk to them or tell them about my dog or chat. It takes all I have to go to the store. I am so venting, thanks.

It's always good to vent my friend, life just sucks sometimes, and it is really hard to justify what we are "expected" to do.

I have PCS and PTSD, and both are hard to deal with. I cant shop, work, be around noise, lost my family and friends. I know that you may feel like a freak, but at least here your in good company of freaks, i wish you the best.

Hi rabbit pipefitter,

I would like to kindly suggest you not think of yourself or anyone who has PTSD as a freak. Those with PTSD react as they do because of the trauma they have experienced/been exposed to.

Those reactions, some of which you mention ( I cant shop, work, be around noise) are normal reactions due to abnormal circumstances.
