Confused Survivors of Home Fires?

I know that there are different online self-help support groups for those who have lost their homes due to wildfires in California and nearby, but...

Does anyone know of any online support group for those who have escaped but been traumatized by the experience? Some lose a loved one and/or their entire home. I recently heard from one family seeking others "who have been there" and through that aftermath hell.

Thanks for any lead. - Ed

Default

sorry no-one got back to you

I had a look around but couldnt find anything - suggest you contact govt - they may be able to help - or local charities may know of groups

there is this board and its sister board at psych central - there may be people there who have had experience in this or the people may just be able to share how they feel there.

Hope it helps

Default I am a survivor... of a fire

We were a military family in 1975 - and moved from Germany to Oklahoma. When our belongings arrived in OK, it always takes some time to be notified and set up the delivery. Before we could receive our things, someone set fire to the storage facility. We lost everything we owned - of course the worst were the loss of all our family (baby & wedding) photos, and other personal irreplaceable items.

That was what I called my "mentally ill" year - I was DEPRESSED - gained 50 lbs - was in a fog and desperately needed counseling. In those "old" days there was a stygma against depression & counseling, so I never got it.

I survived - somehow - after about a year managed to get out of it. Never lost the weight... But for years i'd think .. "don't we have such & such..." and then I'd remember "oh yes we lost it in the fire..."

Get counseling! Good luck.
