I tried it. Yikes. but that was my experience. Many people take it with no problems.

For me, trazadone had an unusual side effect.

I was in Wal-mart. As I was looking at light bulbs - it was so strange I can remember what I was looking at! I started to notice that the lights were dimming. It went from bright light to almost an emergency lighting effect. Very dim. As I kept looking, it brightened up. Then went dim again. I moved to another part of the store, and the same thing happened.

Then, I went outside. It was mid afternoon. The same thing happened again... it got very dim.

I stopped taking tazadone and never had this happen again.

Hi Sandy, I have taken this drug fro about six months now for the exact same reasons as it was prescribed for your daughter. it has really helped me with the sleep issues and seems to help somewhat with the pain. The blessing of it for me is that it allows me to get to sleep. At first i had about a month of really strange dreams but the seem to have subsided as time has passed and I have built up tolerance. I hope your daughter has success with this med and gets good results, Lisa

Trazadone was the third in a line of 'depression' meds prescribed for me because the rheumatologist had no idea where to begin with my odd symptoms (this was pre RSD diagnosis by a pain doctor). Pristiq made me break out in hives, and both Elavil and Trazadone just made my skin burn more. Trazadone did nothing for my pain, it just aggravated my symptoms.

Don't know if this helps at all.

Good luck to your daughter.

Hi Sandy,

I loved trazodone when I was taking it because I slept very well and I did not have that sleeping pill hang over the next day or that awful metallic taste that many leave.

Unfortunately I had to go off it as it caused high blood pressure for me. I cant say if helped for pain because of the other meds I was on at that time, including the lidocaine infusions that I get regularly.

As soon as I went off it my BP returned to normal. I'm now taking Oxazapam for sleep.

I hope it works for your daughter.

Warm wishes.

Hi Sandy/daughter

I have taken trazadone for many years for sleep and pain. This medication has been a lifesaver for me. If I recall correctly, the first couple of weeks I was a bit woozy in the morning, but that went away. The nerve pain, the spasms and the benefits for me have been tremendous. I do hope this works for her, it is relatively a safe "old school" medicine. I would recommend that she is ready for bed is also works very quick. Best of luck.

My daughter takes trazadone too. She also had weird dreams the first month or so, but it does really help her sleep. I recommend to take it when your ready for bed, it does work fast. she gets a good 4-5 hours of deep sleep before she starts to toss and turn and but she does fall back to sleep right away. I hope it works for your daughter.

Hi I was on this for sleep pre rsd and then my pain doc mentioned it again for pain and sleep. For me it did help for and I am a hard case with sleep type meds but in time I had to increase a dose that was causing migraines. I have a few friends who have been on this and adjusting the dose has helped with side effects. I hope your daughter gets relief and sleep.

Hi I take trazodone for sleep. I have the rsd but they have not mentioned that it might help the pain. After a month or so on it the wierd dreams stopped and I was still sleeping good at night. With out it I can not rest at night. Ambien was given to me to add to it on bad pain nights but if I take two like the doctor said I usally sleep a good 6 hours before the pain comes back through and the tossing and turning starts. Hope it helps your daughter.

My daughter started it last night and slept 9 hours. She felt good this morning, no groggy feeling. hopefully this will continue. Thank you for all of your responses...they are greatly appreciated.
