5-

Hello, Chiron: I don't know how you define "long term." I've been on Lyrica for 5-6 months, 75 mg two times per day. I put on 4-5 pounds, am short of breath (more than usual), feel tired more than before. However, I had a scorching pain -- unbearable -- in the back of my right ankle that the Lyrica has suppressed. I have other pains, moderate ones usually, sometimes severe; I'd say the Lyrica solved 60-70% of the pain problem. However, the deterioration goes on; the Lyrica has not solved that development. In short, if you are suffering from severe pains, give it a try if your M.D. says it's O.K. The first week is bad; you have to get used to Lyrica.

Thanks Lebelvere, I just wondered why Pfizers were fined $2.3b in 2009 under the False Claims Act [USA] for misleading information on some off their drugs including Lyrica. regards

Wanted to say welcome to Neuro Talk!! I agree...I would do as the doc says and see how it goes. I was on Lyrica for a short time but couldn't take the side effects. Don't remember having much relief from my pain...good luck and again Welcome!

lyrica

Hello Everyone,
I too was on Lyrica until I fell into medicares GAP, it would cost me about $500 for a 90 day supply. Lyrica did work pretty well for me, I didn't have the side effects that have been mentioned. My doctor switched me to Gabapentin but it's not as effective, when I increase the dosage (on 900mg ) to see if I get better pain management my head is in a fog. I'm interested in what others have tryed.

Hi, my husband has Idiopathic Peripheral Neuropathy and years ago they gave him Lyrica. He had originally tried Neurontin (made him deathly ill).

The Lyrica did absolutely nothing for him.

I gather it works for some and not for others.

Take care,

Melody

I haven't been up to date on that lawsuit, but yes, many people filed.....and I was hoping (Pipedreaming ) that i would get reimbursed the 6K i spent on dental fees for what this drug did....
This has been discussed in more detail here at NT.....
Just do a search (at top of page).... "Lyrica Pfizer Lawsuit" or something and those posts should come up.

I was on lyrica for 2 weeks first to "get my brain used to it" according to local neuro.... what a laugh...I couldnt see and multiple multiple vision couldnt even tell which doorway was the real one and swelled up my feel were so big my son's size XL socks would not even go over my feet and I only wear an XS adult sock. They looked like canned hams with pegs in the end of it the swelling went clear up to my knees before my PCP weaned me off it over the 2nd week. I had SOB and was in horrible pain from headaches. to me lyrica has to be the worst side effects with no help at all I have ever experienced

Thanks all for replying, i really appreciate it. As one of you said it works for some but not for others. i asked the same question on our own C.P. site and i more or less got the same reaction. To be honest, i dont think i stay on the drug cos the side effects are taking too long to go away. Also thanks for the links. regards to all.
