Forum downtime explanation

I apologize for the forum downtime overnight. One of the network adapters on the community database server decided to quit, and given the server's age, we decided to replace the whole server while we were at it. So we did that, and now we're back on a new database server. Who knows, it may even speed up access a bit! :)

Thanks for bearing with us during the downtime this morning.

Best,
DocJohn

I can't get on the chat Rooms anymore. It just looks like Chat Rooms (). And it says an error. Maybe my server as that's what it infers. No trouble before. IDK Then on the bottom on the forum it says something like (under Chatroom users) NOT FOUND and an error.

Chemar 09-11-2010 03:56 PM

I believe that just means the chat rooms are likely not up yet.

as yesterday was DocJohn's birthday and he worked on getting us back up asap, he may be taking a well needed rest before tackling the chat rooms, :) which seem to be the least used feature here

O.K. Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully, they will be up and running again soon. I do use them and some others as well. In fact, some of us have had some good conversations going on there just in the past week. But it is true that they are not used that much. I'm just glad to hear that the trouble is not likely on my end. Thanks again.

Here's the error I am getting:

404 Not Found

The server can not find the requested page:

(none)/chat/chatusers.php (port 80)

Please forward this error screen to orion.liviant.com's WebMaster.

I cannot get on here with my main machine. It appears to have the text message about the down from DocJohn.

I cleared the cache and it is still there.

But I can log on with my backup laptop that I use occasionally.

I am confused and don't understand this.

When I tried an hr ago...I got the 404 message at the top of my screen and the skin I use was incomplete. Now all seems normal except for chat. On this alternate laptop that is.

My main computer is stuck on the message from DocJohn. Maybe I should reboot it? I'll try that.

My problems were pretty confusing....

With experimentally fiddling around I could log into my Moderator Panel. From there I clicked Forums home and got in that way. Both links are in my favorites. But hubby and I stewed on this for a while and he suggested to remove my link to the main board from favorites entirely.

So I did that. Logged into the mod panel, got to the main board index and bookmarked that. Then I logged out. And tried coming back in using the new link...and that worked.
I have to say we looked at both addresses and they were identical in appearance, but one just didn't work anymore.

Now this didn't happen yesterday! Only today. :thud:

I didn't change anything in Bookmarks for my Moderator link. It still works. Boy, I sure do NOT understand computers!

From what Chemar posted to my post and others, Doc John just hadn't gotten around to doing the Chat Rooms. I could not get on them yesterday or today. I've had no trouble with anything else.
