being done over the bridge in Manhattan by a lot of places. should I look into it for the waking internal tremors and the pain, as well as the ocd? I don't know much about deep brain stimulation but reading more.

good question :) I spoke with NYU on the phone and they will get back to me. I think it involves putting a chip in the brain to control pain, tremors and OCD, of which I have all three. but a negative brain mri may disqualify me.

could be. except implanted on the brain though a tiny hole In skull. stlll need to do more reading.

I only know about DBS as it relates to treatment in OCD and Tourette's Syndrome.
It's usually only used in treatment resistant patients. The results are sketchy to say the least. I would be very wary and thorough in any research you do if you are entertaining going down this route.

Thanks Lara. They're experimenting with using it for pain, tinnitus, and a few other things. I just don't think I have anything to lose after 9 years. I'll hear them out and see if they accept me. At worst, I can use it for my OCD. After thirty years I'd say it's not responding to other treatments :)

You'll need to search these yourself.

Also look up the term "parasomnia"
People with parasomnias need to avoid
All alcohol to reduce symptoms.

I recently went had DBS in July and with much success. Prior to DBS I was in a wheel chair half of the day. My on and off was constant sometimes 5 minutes on and thanw off. I was on high dosage of carbo/levo which was causing Paranoid and delusions. I was depressed all the time and not able to function at times except with help. DBS was done in 3 steps. The first step was the two holes in the head where the wires were attached. A week later a stimulator was implanted in my chest under the collar bone. The procedures were not painful and I continued my regimen of medications. About 10 days after the stimulator was implanted the doctor turned on the power. I was amazed and able to walk again. I was also able to turn over in bed which had become a huge problem. My second visit the neuro turned it up further and , as in the first session, reduced my medications again. I am returning next week for my third session. :(The only side affect has been weight gain. The reps from Medtronic were there through the entire process when I had questions. My quality of life has improved . The procedure does not stop progression but monthly visits to the neuro can keep my PD manageable. I was scared at first but looking back I would recommend the procedure to anyone who has on/of constantly and where meds are not working as well as they had. For now I have hope for the future
