Fall is here, and Oct is coming

Hi all, Well Derrick had his orientation tonight. He will start on
Thursday. So he is looking forward to it. We have his 3 month
meeting tomorrow. He has all wednesday's off. Its a busy day for him.

I will be around a while to hopefully take him to work so they can
get the bus scheduled. But he is ready for this to start again.

I have had a great few days. I don't remember if I posted after we
went out looking for clothes for him to work in. But he wanted to
eat at o'charles on Saturday so we did. And he got the employee
discount. It was a 50 % off discount. Really nice. WOW, we had
the 12oz top sirloins. SO it was a $20.00 discount.

I don't think I'll forget his face soon when the girl came and told us
she was looking for the manager to get his discount. He was so
shocked, she saw it. And said, yes even just hired you get a discount.

And smiled all the way to find the manager.

Just realized I hadn't posted about the weekend. Derrick had a great first
3 days of work. He is really happy at work. And learning the ropes.

They like him and that is good. He works thursday through Saturday again
this week. Before I went to kokomo, we found out we had to go change
his schedule to Thursday afternoon, because he has a doctors appt.
in the morning that was supposedly cancelled. He got so upset
but he calmed down.

Seems my husband has decided to get Will's birthday present.
He surprised me and asked our son Devin what he wanted for
his birthday. Its lego's I had asked him if he wanted me to pick
them up not knowing what exactly to get. He replied he was
going to look at them. SO I'll wait and see if he gets them.

Wow, he is getting better at things again. He used to like being
part of it all before.

I am happy for him!

That's great he wanted to do that, Donna.

[ I love lego. I nearly bought myself a boxed set last year, strange as that may sound. It was a tree house that lit up. :). My children loved their lego. ]

My sister's surgery went well. She will be heading home this afternoon.

She sounded good last night.
Donna :hug::grouphug:

Dmom3005 10-08-2021 10:17 AM

Well my husband came by Derrick's last night, and called my brother-in-law for an update on my sister. She sounds so good. Should go home this afternoon.

Also brought me a IBEW 668 shirt for breast cancer. And had bought himself a shirt supporting another agency, don't remember which one.
I like him like this.

Plus no more work on my house, he was not happy, but he got his dump truck running and to the dump with our old couch. And I told him that was more important. Because Devin needed that truck to redo his roof. Which my husband already feels bad he isn't helping him with. So I'm guessing he
will get some more done this weekend on my house to get the new furnace
in the next few weeks. My house needs lots of cleaning and mess moved.
That he has made. But he works so hard he only has weekend time. And Dan
helps him. He also is mowing still on weekends at the big farm his parents used to own. I think that might be this weekend.

Derrick had a good night last night, and he learned two host quit. So the manager, told him they will definitely be giving him a 4th day. And it will
probably be a night, I will probably stay the first of this week. So he can
go if they figure it out. And the next week hopefully the bus will start.

He is really happy and its a good fit. He was having lots of trouble with his back last night. So massager and the dog Dobby helped him with that.
We will see how he feels after tonight. I'm worried.

Derrick felt a lot better on Friday and Saturday.

He came out to my house with me last night and will be here till
Monday and his dad said, be would take him home for me.
I have a couple things going on so that is good.

I thought he and his dog needed a change of scenery.
So that was good.

I tried to get in last night to post that I have a 40 year old son now.
But got side tracked. heehee

We took Dan for pizza last night, it was his 40th birthday.

We had a great time. Its been pouring here so bad all week. Ugh.

I hate it when it does that. Oh well.

happy birthday Dan. hope you have a great new year.
bobby

Dmom3005 10-16-2021 02:14 PM

I took him yesterday to get his shot for the month. And he got a piece
of pizza before we left and one when we came back. Then today
he came and got another piece. He I believe is coming here to get
it so he can go for a walk when he wants to eat. He says he doesn't
want much to eat. This is I believe the time of year that he doens't
eat much.

Also I know that Harmony has a ear and upper body infection they
found this out at Urgent Care yesterday. And I think he might have
a cold type thing too. But not sure. I haven't asked him yet. But I
also think he might have either cut down on smoking or quit.

I haven't seen him smoking in a long time. Which is really odd. He
has been a chain smoker for a long time. But I knew he was going to
try and cut down if not stop. I am hoping it worked and he stopped
Will ask him one day.

I haven't been in for a while and posted. Just lots of cases coming
my way. Oh well. Anyway, last week Kortni got sick. She went
to the doctor on Friday and is on Antibiotic's too. So she is on the
mend too. I am hoping when I get Harmony's school picture
I can figure out how to post it so you guys can see her. She went
back to school this week. She is feeling lots better.

They did Devin's roof last week. And that is fixed pretty much for
now. May need to finish the other side later. But it was raining
the end of the week and all weekend. So it had to be done.

Derrick has a new dog, after dog watching for a friend. She had
hoped it worked out so he could keep her. And so had he. He
has always wanted a second dog. Now he has jazzy a terrier.
And Dobby is happy too. So its nice. She is or was my friend
who Derrick stayed in Lafayette with when he first moved in
to town or stayed with when he went to Excel to get his diploma
and worked.

It was. I had Will yesterday then came to Derrick's. My husband kept
Will for a bout 30 minutes so I could leave early.

The only problem I have with this is Meluvja thinks he should work
on work in workbooks the whole time. Which then if he does
a messy job or not the right answers then she isn't happy.

I guess next time I'll have to check the answers.

You really take care of your family and clients. Have they given you a raise any time soon?
bizi

Dmom3005 11-03-2021 09:02 PM

Because we are Non Profit, we get a different kind of raise.

And its been really nice. The last couple years we have been
getting a bonus every three months, if we do our quota of things.
I can't tell you what exactly they are because I never remember.
But the bonus is $100.00 for the 3 months, so we have a potential
of making a extra 4 hundred a year. I've made mine all the time
so far. I believe I made my last one in September but not positive.
Because I don't think I was told so. And we had a change in our
payroll person. SO she is so new I don't remember if I looked yet.

Heehee, But I'm sure I made it or will.

I had Will last Saturday, and when i left Dale, had him, they passed out
9 bags more of candy than they had bought they kept going to the dollar general and buying candy. Even in the rain.

Donna

bizi 11-03-2021 10:58 PM

we went thru 10 pounds of candy, we had 100's of kids and parents.
I was great fun.

ps. great job getting those bonuses.

mymorgy 11-04-2021 05:03 AM

great about the bonuses!

Dmom3005 11-04-2021 12:46 PM

Yes, I personally love the way we get our bonus's right now.

I get to spend it any way I want. I'm pretty sure we get a small
raise once a year too. ITs like usual. But this is something we
get too.

Dmom3005 11-04-2021 08:09 PM

I have to say I have a blessing of families right now. I helped a mom
get some more help for her son. In reading today. I wasn't sure how
I was going to do this, because I don't do specific learning disabilities
as much. But I had asked co-workers some questions got some help.
And then todays meeting was great. We got lots of more help for him.

I'm really worried about one of my cases son's though. I've had this case
for many years and he is a case with mental health issues. And he added
tourettes not to long ago. And its getting really bad. I am trying very hard
to stay supportive and helpful. But I just don't know how else I can help.
So I sure hope this mom can find more help.

Its just my life, But I feel blessed to have my friends here on Neuro talk
ladies. Thanks for being here to listen to me. And celebrate with me.

Donna

bizi 11-04-2021 08:19 PM

Tourettes is a difficult diagnosis.
I wonder if this is Tarditive Discanesia (I really don't know how to spell it).
lets just call it TD side effect of some psych meds. hoping that she called his psych team to discuss possible TD and what meds may be causing this.I take cogentin to prevent TD.
sorry it is so frustrating.

Dmom3005 11-05-2021 11:50 AM

Bizi
Very good question. But with this diagnosis do you have like
tics like the verbal words that just come out. And can't stop,
like: Want drugs, I'm a hobo, just continueing for a few .

Donna:hug::grouphug:

mymorgy 11-05-2021 02:15 PM

i had td with abilify. no way does it sound like td.

bobby

bizi 11-05-2021 10:18 PM

vocalizations are classic tourettes and not TD.
Thanks for clarifying his symptoms.
bizi

Dmom3005 11-06-2021 02:55 PM

Its really bad because for years he has had the tics with movement.
He added the vocal about a year and half ago. But mom wasn't ready
to admit it could be tourettes. But it really sounded like it. Now she
has asked the psychiatrist if it could be. And the psychiatrist agreed.

I'm so glad that when he swictched schools his case manager switched,
because the person that had him, had the idea still to say oh I think he
is still able to control this. Even though he had finally when asked by
mom told her he didn't know why they came out. They just did.

His old principal had also told mom he was pretty sure that this child
had no control over his words when these came out. So he was on
board. And he would see them when he was in his office with him
trying to calm down before mom would get there. He was the
reason he could stay in the school as long as he had.

They both hated the fact he was leaving behind a great principal.
But the principal is making a point to keep a eye on him. So hopefully
that will help. He gave them both his direct contacts.

Is Tourette's inherited from mother or father?
Image result
Genetic studies have indicated that TS is inherited as a dominant gene, with about a 50% chance of parents passing the gene on to their children. Boys with the gene(s) are three to four times more likely than girls to display symptoms of TS.

There is evidence from clinical trials that risperidone can be effective in controlling tics and it is widely used.
has this been tried. what other medication has been tried?

Dmom3005 11-07-2021 02:44 PM

Bobby

I don't think they know if it runs in the family. His parents are
divorced. So I don't think his mom knows if it runs in the dads
family. And the medicine its so new of a diagnosis I'm not
sure if they have tried that yet.

I believe that you were on it for along time and asked to be taken off of it. It was a good med for you, don't remember you talking about your hypomanic back then. maybe there was weight gain? I don't remember.
bizi

mymorgy 11-08-2021 04:33 AM

there was definitely weight gain. I was definitely less depressed and obsessive. I did function much better when I was on it. I slept more too. I also had less anxiety. Then I had no problem walking and hadn't had the stroke yet.
bad mistake I guess but maybe the weight gain contributed to the diabetes and stroke.

Image result for can risperdal cause diabetes
Side effects of Risperdal include gynecomastia (male breast growth), stroke, weight gain, and diabetes. A number of significant studies link diabetes to Risperdal.Sep 17, 2018

another study said for type 2 diabetes taking risperdal was not significant.

Risperidone can cause metabolic changes that might increase your risk for having a stroke or heart attack..

I also just read no significance for the elderly but I wasn't elderly when I was taking it.

bizi 11-08-2021 10:35 AM

maybe send a note to your PDOC and ask him if he can recall why you were taken off the risperdol.?
