popping in for a second

we had to put my FIL in the hosptial this morning... he was complaining of chest pains. We met the ambulance at the er... they did blood work and found out his hemoglobin was at a 4..... its suppose to be at an 11..... they freaked, went into panic mode and immediately started to give him some blood. he has some internal bleeding but not for sure where... one thing at a time... after only one unit of blood he had improved alot... he is in the critical care unit in the hospital. on a different matter both of my kiddos are doing good. The funeral of the little girl on Rebeccas volley ball team is this afternoon. THATS why i'm here and not at the hosptial LOL... IKE has not made an appearance in oklahoma yet, i've not heard the latest, but i'm thinking here in Norman we wont get over a couple inches of rain.... i have to scoot its going to be a very busy day. i've been up since 3:00 this morning....:hug:

Nik-key 09-13-2008 01:35 PM

Vicky, thinking of you while you and your family are going through all
this:hug: I can understand the panic with your FIL. I only have experience
with the hemoglobin with dogs, I had two that had Auto Immune Hemolytic
Anemia. I am glad he responded so well to treatment. Please keep us posted.

I am sure the service is going to be hard to witness.... keeping your family-
their family in my thoughts and prayers:hug:

Wow...yesterday sounds like a doozy. You and Rick have had very full plates lately.

How is FIL today? I'm glad he is getting the help he needs. 4 is a scary hemaglobin....it is what carries oxygen to our body so when it is that low, many things can be affected. I hope they get to the bottom of why.

How did the services go yesterday? Are the kids doing OK?

My FIL is doing much better today. we just got back from the hosptial. Hes on his 6th unit of blood and his hemoglobin is up to an 8. The dr said he wanted it to a 10. Both kiddos are doing well.... the services yesterday were sad, but it was more of a celebration rather than a sad affair... there were still many many tears, but the service was very uplifting... Rick is broke out in Hives from all the stress hes been under. yesterday his top lip was swollen. it looked like he had been in a fist fight and lost.... I think we're getting ready to take a nap... its been a very busy weekend... :hug:
Thank you for your prayers and positive thoughts... You guys are the best!

Goofy that is wonderful news!!! Have they figured yet why his levels were so
low? As I said I only have experience with my 2 pups in this area....the regular
dog blood transfusions didn't work, so we had to use a "synthetic blood"
called oxyglobin. Our first dog needed 7 transfusions...it ran us over 4
thousand dollars:eek::eek:

Again, so very happy he is doing better today. Please do keep us posted!
I hope you are able to get some rest and less stress so Rick's rash can go
away! Thinking of you all ~Nikki :hug::hug:

I have good news and i have bad news. My FIL has a bleeding ulcer in his duodemen (i know i spelled it wrong and right now i dont care LOL) He also has a (here goes another spelling mistake) a heital hernia.... They are releasing him from the hospital tomorrow to go to a skilled nursing unit. He'll be there until he gets his strength back. Ricks twin brother is coming down from Oregon the 26th. i doubt my FIL will be strong enough by then to be in his apartment. i guess we'll see..... Thank you for your prayers and support. You guys are the best!!!!!!!!!! {{{{{{{{{{HUGS}}}}}}}}}

Ouch...I'm sorry about your FIL Goofy....hoping he'll feel much better now that they have dx'd him. Keeping you all in my prayers. :hug:

Koala77 09-17-2008 06:33 PM

I'm sorry to hear about the duodenal ulcer Goofy, but the good news is that they can be treated. There is a medication that can be given to heal them, and if that doesn't work, then surgical oversewing is the another option.

As far as the hiatus hernis is concerned, they're extremely common and most people don't even know they have one. I found out by accident that I have one, when I was having some chest pain investigated. Apart from the occassional reflux, I would never know I even had it, had the doctor not seen it when I had the endoscopy.

My thoughts and prayers will stay with him until we hear that he's well on the road to recovery.

As far as the other things go that have been worrying you lately ...............:hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug: :hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug::hug:
