Something falling from the sky

I drove in from the office 10 minutes ago, and the entire way home I noticed some white precipitate coming from the sky. Nobody had mentioned the "S" word, but it has been cold enough here. We've not been here a year yet, but we've been told it rarely snows in Atlanta. So, I drove up and stood outside and let the snowflakes fall onto my tongue. I saw a few of our neighbours peeking out of their windows peering at me as if I were gobsmacked. Now, it's really coming down and is beautiful. I haven't seen snow where I lived in years. I wish I knew how to post pictures on here. It's not sticking on the streets, but the grass is starting to get covered.

This is so EXCITING!!!!!:D

How is the weather in your part of the country?

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-16-2008 06:42 PM

And when it does, y'all don't know what to do! It's pretty funny to watch! The airport shuts down, the freeways are a mess. I remember being out there a few years ago when it snowed, and I just sat in my hotel room and laughed out loud!

It's 27 degrees and the sun is shining here! Yee haw! Sunshine. Gotta luv it! It maybe cold, but we got sunshine!

We've not been here when it snowed, but the news folks are going mad. I'm going to try and post a picture of it. Michael showed my how to use Photobucket. I hope it works.

How are you feeling, Cheryl? Have you received the results of your C-T Scan?

Well, the link worked for me. Does it work for you?

SallyC 01-16-2008 07:05 PM

I thought you were going to say "The sky is falling, the sky is falling"..LOL. I used to have pics of an Atlanta snowfall. Pretty deep too...kids out playing in it, because all the schools closed..:D

Here in Ohio, they don't close the schools, unless it's blizzard conditions or for an ice storm. We're pretty prepared here.

I hope you have enough to build a snowman...Wheeereeee!!:Trapeze 2: :popcom::trampoline:

It's just sleeting now. :( I don't believe there will be enough to build a snowman, but I'm glad I have the day off tomorrow-perfect sleeping weather.:winky: I threw away all of my boots, and gloves when I got married and moved to Fla.

tovaxin_lab_rat 01-16-2008 08:28 PM

We're used to snow here too. It's pretty rare when they close the schools!

We lived in Boston for a while but when we moved there, I had lived in warm climates for so long I didn't even own a warm coat or any shoes that would pass for cold weather shoes (flip flops don't count!).

We moved there in November so the first thing I bought was down coat and the second thing was a pair of warm boots! I practically lived in that coat! Finally in July, I decided I needed sun and beach, so I took a short vacation back down to St. Augustine where we had moved from...I didn't realize how much I missed the sun! I don't think they get much sun in Boston! Maybe 2 weeks of summer! I hated living there...when we got orders to Fallon, NV, I was elated! A whole state of sand! Yeah!

I know...I am weird, but where there is sand, there is lots of sun!

;)

Beautiful picture, Chris.:) I love those houses, but two story?

Chris 01-16-2008 08:42 PM

OK-It's really coming down now. Michael just took another picture and is going to try and post this one for me.

Sally,
This is a rental home, and fortunately our Master Bedroom is on the main floor. Michael has an office upstairs, and we have 2 bedrooms up there, but I rarely go up there. Everything I need is down here, but I still would like my own home.

Cheryl,
I know what you mean. When I came over to the states, I lived in NYC. I had all kinds of cold weather clothing, but after we moved to FLA., it was silly to keep it. Little did I know............

Here's what it looks like now.

You have more snow that I do right now! I bet everyone out there is going nuts! I am glad that I am not travelling through ATL right now!!!

Cheryl,
I don't understand it. There are a bunch of children in our little subdivision, and none of them are out playing. They've already cancelled schools in our county for tomorrow, and every half hour they are interrupting the tellie with up to date weather reports. I've NEVER seen anything like this in my life. It's almost as if a nuclear bomb has gone off. Nobody is around at all (except for me and Michael; the ex Floridians...:D)

They are afraid of the white stuff! LOL! They don't know how to drive in it! It's pretty funny. Actually it's not...better to be safe than sorry! When it snows there, I tell you they are not prepared! Have fun!

:D

LOL!:D Our neighbour just called and asked if he we needed anything from the grocery store. He has a truck. Michael asked him what we could possibly need, and he replied, "the usual.....milk, bread, and canned goods". I suppose everyone thinks we are going to be stuck at home for the next month due to a little bit of snow. It is getting rather humourous about now. Can you imagine if they had a blizard here?

Chris
How wonderful for you. The pics are lovely. Is there still snow today?

I miss sunshine. In Colorado you could have sun and snow in the same day, even at the same time. Will I ever stop missing it.

If you can put a snowball in your freezer.

Hello Beth,
Why does one put a snowball in the freezer? Does it bring one luck? The snow is gone. It rained that night and was gone by yesterday morning, but they are predicting that we're going to get 2" of snow again tonight, which apparently is very rare for this area of the country. As I'm home this afternoon, I think I'll prepare a nice soup for us to have around this weekend in the event that we do have all that snow.

It's a lovely day out today. Tis hard to believe that there may be snow covering the ground again tomorrow.

DM 01-18-2008 04:52 PM

WOW Chris~~ My DD lives in NC, and school was delayed for 2 hrs today as there was a threat of sleet. They totally freak when the weather does something like that.

I once put a snowball in the freezer for my BIL in NC. When they came to IL the following summer, I took it out and threw it at him.

Only thing was, it had hardened like a piece of ice and when it hit him in the cheek, it bruised his face and really HURT! I felt so bad. Don't see any good luck that came out of that.!!!

Oh my gosh, it's snowing as I type this! I'll have to heat up and scrape my car before I head for home!

We leave for vacation Sunday morning early and there's supposed to be -15 to -25 F wind chill factor!

Enjoy your flakes while you've got them! :)

It's 90 miles south of San Antonio. Yep Navy town it WAS. Now there's a state prison there.

Next time I end up stuck in DFW, I will be sure to let you know! We'll do lunch! Or dinner or whatever....

Shoot, if I'd know you were there, I'd have re-routed myself through there on my way home from Tulsa instead of through Hot-lanta! I hate that airport...:(

After Cindy's trip out west last Fall, Michael and I have decided to take our holidays out west this summer (we hope). We're planning on driving out the Northern route, and coming home the Southern route. How far from Colorado are you located? We may just show up this summer.:)

We used to do this when I was a child. I suppose you get your share of snow where you reside, but I was rather amused by it all.:p

I wish I had known you were coming through here. I could have met you at the airport. It's just a quick train ride away. Let me know the next time you'll be coming through our airport and if I'm not working, I'd love to meet you.:)

I will be there on Sept 9 and Sept 17 that I know of right now. Going through there on my way to and from Wales.

I will probably be there before that, but those dates are bought and paid for right now!

Almost all Delta flights go through Hot-lanta!

Personal message me before you come, and we'll make plans to meet.

*Oh how exciting! I've never met any of you before!*

We've learned to despise Delta, since we've moved here, and try to take AirTran as much as possible. Although, it seems that Delta pretty much runs the airport here.

Where are you going in Wales? You're going to LOVE it there!!

PODH is retired from Delta. ATA is who flew us when he was in the military so to us it's military transport...

We are flying into Manchester and going to the Int'l Sheepdog Trials in Abergele. We plan to go to Dublin for a day and London for a couple of days. There are 3 of us going. A friend of mine and my sister. I guess technically we are going to North Wales.

I have been to Ireland before but only to the Dublin airport. The other two have never been to UK at all.
