I Like Nutella with...........
Starting a Nutella thread while on

nutella pizza here in new York city :)

Lara, i have to laugh!
I have limited gluten free stuff up here so a butter knife is a stand in here. I find the chocolate blast very satisfying. The news just had an item about the hazelnuts Crop failing so Nutella will soon increase in Price. Hubby made a long distance Super Walmart trip last week and they had 3 Sizes there. Our home store only has the Small one. And local grocery has NONE And my small jar was empty already! I usually Only get the small size. This Walmart is on the Canadian border so many Canadian shoppers are there. Big Nutella but no Gluten free stuff like at home! And they had a ginormous jar of 35 ounces! But i had him get the middle sized one which Is 26 ounces ;) this should last until we return LOL! |
Yep, shortage of hazelnuts worldwide.
26 ounces? That's the way to go. I went out yesterday and bought 2 jars of nutella. Says a lot for advertising on the news really doesn't it. They're on special everywhere here at the moment. It's been a long time since we had any. It's a big treat for us. I make truffles at xmas time and use cold nutella rolled into a little ball in the middle. The sweet truffles of course, not the fungi! I've seen nutella pizzas here too, but I like my pizza very savoury if I ever have it. |
mrsD, just curious, is it the soy and lethicin that's in regular Nutella that is the problem for gluten sensitive people? I couldn't find anything else on the list that it could be.
|
No, not a problem i am aware of.
But then i am not intense or need to be like Celiacs Require. I am very sensitive to malted barley, and some of the Gum additives that are becoming common in food. Pgpr (I may have the abbrev. slightly wrong) in Hershey's bothers me (a cocoabutter substitute) And carob bean (aka locust bean) also bothers my GI problems. So far Dove chocolate is still free from Those gums. Because of my angioedema problem I have many triggers. I use gluten free crackers, rice cakes, and no bread. I can sometimes cheat with pasta, but i also try and Use buckwheat or brown rice substitutes as much as possible. |
Oh, I get it.
I misread your post. Quote:

Oh, sorry about that !
Typing on this little phone with the stylus means lots of Typos and correcting and i just lose the gist of my thoughts. I normally touch type on standard keyboards and that way Is so different for my old brain tha using the phone Is tiring and frustrating. Sigh |
I've never tried Nutella but I think I need to. I've seen many commercials for it and now there is a chocolate one. Maybe next shopping trip I can get a jar. :)
|
Nutella IS chocolate--cocoa to be exact. It is like peanut
Butter only hazel nut based instead and chocolate. It is wonderful on warm toast ( i miss bread now doing gluten Free). Don't confuse it with the newly advertised Hershey's-- which I assume is filled with additives-- but i haven't seen a jar of That yet. Hershey's chocolate and symphony bars have That PGPR junk in them now and really make my GI issues Much worse. Nutella is more natural and sinfully delightful. It has been in Europe and other countries for many years and just now making a dent in USA. We' ve used it For many years and our son is crazy for it! |
Nutella spread on warm toast with a sprinkle of pure coconut flakes on top.............
mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm |
It'd be nice on a warm croissant.
 |
Nutella
Interesting article.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nutella Here is another site. http://www.nutellausa.com/history3.htm Hershey's chocolate spread ingredients. http://www.hersheys.com/spreads/flavors.cshtml Also interesting when you read the ingredients on the label of Nutella. A lot of sugar. |
Oh, I know. It's a pain really, but it tastes so good.
Ours also has palm oil in it too, not sure about in the USA. I'm not happy with the palm oil industry. Orangutans Survival Info - buy palm oil free alternatives http://www.orangutans.com.au/Results.aspx?q=nutella November 22 2010 'A spokesperson for Ferroro, which uses palm oil in its popular spread Nutella, said the company switched to more environmentally friendly sources last year and intended to increase the quota of certified oil it uses.' |
Ours has palm oil too and the
Label says "Made in Canada". For me it is a treat. I will skip lunch to Make up for it ;) |
I totally understand.
When you think about it too, it's quite a cheap treat compared with buying things like hazlenut praline chocolates. You're more strong willed than me. I couldn't miss lunch. |
LOL I am sitting here at the computer at 1:30 am with a cup of decaf tea and graham crackers with nutella spread on them:)
Wish DS34 could partake but he is allergic to milk products, along with most everything else. It is a wonderful way to get chocolate cravings!! |
I was hooked on Nutella for a while, had to quit buying it. But that was years ago. Recently, last week, I bought a small jar. I've had a couple spoonfuls over the past week, not as bad as before when I'd eat half a big jar at once. Let's hope the addiction doesn't come back.
Oh, I forgot, I like Nutella with Marshmallow. I alternate a spoon of Nutella with a spoon of Marshmallow Fluff. |
